Then at that point they (his corner) should have stopped the fight.

Magomed's handlers performance seems almost criminal given what has happened :-(

Most on this cite don't care about this story as they only criticize fighters who publicly address potential boxing-related medical concerns, obviously showing no care for a boxers' health nor respect for a fighter caring about their own health.

I hope you realize how foolish you look now.

    ---

Magomed has been on my mind since this happened. Nothing but the best wishes...

Credit should be reserved for all the competent and dedicated medical professionals attending him, not squandered on a god.

This is the kind of scenario where doctors' role as heroes (not just the surgeons but the specialists, nurses, and PA's) really gets reinforced.

I would have agreed with you immediately after the fight but, after watching the fight twice more, the soonest the fight could have possibly been stopped was between the 7th and 8th rounds. At that point, he was clearly distracted by the swelling in his face and was definitely behind on the cards.
That said, there was a TON on the line for both guys as Mago was ranked 4th or 5th(?) by the WBC going into the fight and a victory would have put him in the tourney for Vitali's belt (not to mention that Wlad was ringside FFS!). I'm not saying that we should ignore warning signs or injuries, but let's keep all of this in mind before indicting his corner.

    well said.

Fighters are serious creatures, and some more serious than others.Winning or losing has such a profound consequence to these fighters who give it everything they have to make it past the winning post that some would rather die than quit.

The corners are in tune with the thoughts of the fighter, but should have a close eye on whats happening to there fighter, and be willing to save the guy from serious harm and never be as prepared as the fighters to go that far.

Fighters will fight to the death if you let them. They need to be saved from themselves at the best of times by people who have the fighters interests at heart more than the fighter does himself during a life and death fight.:deal

With all the injuries Mago had, he did not quit fighting and had some really good moments even in the very last round. However, some fights are wars and there are no serious injuries and some are wars that end in tragedy, such as Gerald McCellen..................and now Mago...............I did read that he has moved one of his arms.............I really hope he recovers...........

Credit should be given to God & the Doctors. If Mago & his fans feels they should why should they not? Even from your nonbelieving perspective , God is seen as a comforting being to Magomed and his family and prayers brought the fans together in unity to support, providing charity etc. Besides your impression of how you imagine they view Gods role in this is rather off the mark. Much more nuanced then simply some magical bearded dude in the sky zapping Mago and saving him instead of the medical staff.

Hell yeah, real life heroes right there...

    Um...

I see what you're saying, but no...

Medical staff = only people who are responsible for his being alive and potential survival rates from horrific state

God/Higher Power/etc. = his/her only role would be putting him in the ring and letting his body react the way it did on that night... the only possible positive I could see here is if the medical staff was religious and their beliefs somehow directly impacted the difference of success or failure in any of the operations/decisions/etc.

    According to sport1.de:

    Russian on the upgrade.

Even still 2 weeks after the brutal fight and brain surgery, the russian heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov is still in an artificial coma. But he is on the upgrade. The swelling of his brain is receding.
"One week ago, the doctors said that he wouldn't survive this. They were 100 percent serious he wouldn't survive. Now they think he is out of the woods and will survive." said Nathan Lewkowicz, his promoter.
Heavyweight boxer Abdusalamov fought Mike Perez at MSG Theater and lost after a real ring war. After the fight he was treated insufficiently by doctors and went to hospital on his own. On his way to hospital he threw up a few times and passed out, arriving there.
The doctors found a blood clot in his head and had to remove it.
In addition to that, Abdusalamov broke his hand, his nose and his jaw. Apparently, the father of three, will be put out of the coma soon.
"They want to put him out of the coma and see how he responds" said Lewkowicz. We don't know, if he's still able to talk or if he'll even be blind. Those are real possibilities."

Lets not turn this into a religious debate folks... I just hope Mago makes a full recovery, he won't be able to return to the ring but maybe he can bring his talent to use as boxing trainer.

I'm thinking he'll be alright, as the doctors have said looks like he's out the woods.... Worse case scenario he'll have to do some therapy to regain some lost functions.

nah bro, as much as i want this to be true brain injuries just dont work like that. He'll probably be deaf/blind have massive memory loss, motor skills absolutely shot or all of the above. I compare his situation to that of Gman who had brain bleeding as well and had to be in induced coma for a while.
