I'd rather see a prime Toney vs a prime Calzaghe.

Going with toney only because ward is a complete fighter but lacks a jones offense

Heck, even jones vs this version of toney is 50/50

This version of toney would have beaten any smw in history

You must not like Joe very much because you want him to get the beating of his life.

IMO Ward v Toney is a much more intriguing match up and having thought about this before I say an in shape and motivated Toney might even stop Ward but would probably win a close UD

Ward is a great fighter but James in his prime was a a ****in problem. He would've beat Ward convincingly. Not that Andre wouldn't knock out a few corners. ......he just wouldn't be the one with his hand raised at the end of 12......if it made it that long.

James Toney in his prime was quite possibly the best boxer of all time.

Barkley was aggressive and coming forward. Ward isn't. if Toney lost to Roy Jones the way he did it's likely the same would happen with Ward

I won't even argue that. ......but he really wasted his talent ability and career by not taking it seriously. His work ethnic was non existent during his prime.

I think best-for-best Toney is better. But. The styles favour Ward here. It would be a brave man that would pick Ward, but I could defo see an upset here.

It's still a bit too early in his career to outright favor him, but I think Ward looks like the kind of guy who'd beat Toney, even the sharpest version of James. Ward's excellent everywhere and can mix up his game very well, and he has real speed and very underrated physicality and strength to go with that.
