I liked him a great deal, almost shy, a complete turn around from Ali. What this interview reminds me of is that Don Manuel seems to have done excellent work as a manager for Mike, who gypped himself out of a five million dollar payoff for Cooney by refusing to abandon some chick, or give up his WBA Title, when Manuel advised him to. Comes across as an excellent representative for Weaver.

I'm a fan of the Adam Carolla podcast... He taught boxing on some level in LA in the mid 90's... He still speaks of Mike Weaver in the gym, in his 50's, just looking like a Greek God and shaming everyone.. Mike had some skills, tho. On a drunken night last week, I watched 4 of his fights and damn it, he knew what he was doing. Not a ton of holes and real power. Just an inconsistent performer and a late bloomer.
He even looked like that at age 49 against Holmes. People who are simply born that way bring out the green eyed monster in me. A lot of his appeal was that he finally came on to make the most of what he had. It was in a day and age when muscularity was frowned upon in heavyweight boxers. Norton was accused of being muscle bound, and it was presumed that Hercules gassed easily because of his oxygen gobbling muscularity. His wins over LeDoux, Tate, Coetzee and Tillis turned the HW boxing world upside down, in proving that a heavyweight with muscularity could indeed possess skills, staying power, and a hard punch.

Always liked Weaver a lot. Of course, the boxrec warriors out there will look at his record and claim that he was crap, but Mike was a good fighter.
Weaver was a very good fighter in his day. Reminds me a little bit of Frank Bruno as he had a physic like no one else and could give any good fighter trouble on a given night with his great strength and power to go along with a solid jab and decent boxing skills.
Mike was a very good fighter, but with the level of talent in the division at that time, someone was going to get him, but he would've been competitive with most of the contenders.
