It's 1986, Mitch Green just lost to Tyson...

It's funny, I'm reading the Mike Tyson book and even Mike Tyson called Mitch Green crazy. I don't have a real answer for you, sorry. Just wanted to drop by and say that.

Not much.

He was barely on the radar screen at the time of the Tyson fight. Hardly a diamond in the rough type and there were rumours of how hard it was to manage the guy back then. So, lots of negatives and question marks and not a whole lot of positives to work with at that stage of the game. Adding losses to that kind of thing certainly won't help.

Overall, he was pretty much on par with a guy like Ribalta. Good solid pro career maybe, but not going to win a lot against top 10 competition. And once he reached the top 10, he was not going to stay there long.

Tough tough sport when the stars aren't aligned and they never were for Mitch Green.

 

This. Mitch 'Blood' Green was (and still is) completely off the wall. The guy is a hood rat through and through and lives life on his terms. No one would be able to control him.

 

Fought to win instead of survive? He stunk.

Green starts shitting brix and talking about how he gets on with everyone etc etc etc

 

I love it so far, though I'm a huge Mike Tyson fan. Even though it has two writers (AKA the other guy wrote it) it's totally written in Mike's voice. You feel like he's just telling your stories as if you were sitting there with him. Never thought I'd read a book with Mike Tyson's voice in my head, lol.

 

Just read in the Tyson book that Green was close to getting a rematch at Madison Square Garden against Tyson for the belt until Tyson knocked him crazy in the streets. It's sort of hard to believe he was going to get that shot, but as Tyson said "He almost talked himself into it."

 

Green didn't have any talent, just because you are tall and have a long reach doesn't mean you can fight, and no trainer worth a crap wouldn't want anything to do with this clown because he's to dumb and crazy..
There's a reason he's best known for getting his lights punched out by Tyson on the street, because he didn't amount to squat in the ring..

 

If Bonecrusher Smith hadn't been moved up to fight Tim Witherspoon, I believe Mitch could've beaten Bone in Fayetteville in their scheduled December 1986 fight.If I was Green, I would've have gotten revenge on Robert Evans for that ridiculous draw he had in 1981.Then fight someone like a Jose Ribalta, or Larry Alexander, then fight for the NABF, Or USBA belt, which would put him back on the radar for a title shot, if he's serious.

 

If Tyson had been on top for a bit longer as champion, he might have been able to capitalise on his history with Tyson to get a lucrative title fight. As his manager, I would have tried to get him in the top 10 and keep him there. Don’t expect me to be too bold in my match making.

 

This isn't even close to true. Mitch Green won the New York Golden Gloves 4 times in a row, a feat that has never been matched. If by "didn't have any talent" you mean he let drugs and a crazy life-style take away that talent, than yes, but to suggest he never had any talent is fairly ludicrous. He was being bred to do good things and he just got in his own way.

 

I said above that I was surprised to figure out that Green was actually indeed about to get a title shot until the street fight despite not having fought since that last fought, for the reason you said, it would have been lucrative. Instead he was already and went crazy in a street fight and threw away that chance. Tyson - in his book - said Green was going to fight someone (I forget who, I don't even know if he knew) and would have been put back into the rankings just to do this rematch in NYC. Green still had fans at this point because of his amateur accolades.
