Dereck Chisora will defend,his european title against Ondrej Pala.

I'm pretty familiar with both, but can't decide if this is a step up or down from Modugno. :think

Either way, Pala & Modugno are both superior to Chisora's originally rumored opponents - Gjergjaj and Zimnoch.

 

With Modungo we were giving the benefit of the doubt. It is pretty clear that Pala will not bring a strong challenge for Chisora...especially on 10 days notice.

Butt, I am not sure about Zimnoch. He was at least tested against grandad McCall. Pala not at once manage to surpass a strong opponent.

 

Eh, I rate the Akinwande, Mazikin I & II, Airich I, and Ding victories over today's version of McCall.

Pala isn't great and won't be a challenge for Chisora assuming he is still in the rampaging beast-mode that forced Gerber into retirement - but to me he is a proven B- grade, European level heavyweight at least. Zimnoch isn't. That version of McCall, pushing 50 and unable to pull trigger, counts for very little. Otherwise Zimnoch has fought absolutely nobody except dregs of the domestic scene in Poland. In his only remote step up, early on, he drew with a tomato can from the US. The UD over that version of McCall is probably his third best achievement, behind Art Binkowski and the shutout of Remy Z.

This fight was originally scheduled for April, but Pala pulled out. Easy fight for Chisora.

 

Ondrej Pala is good decent replacement with 10 days to go and for me and certainly a better test then either Modugno or Gjergjaj would have been.

This was always just a ticking over fight for Chisora to set up a bigger fight early 2014.

 

:good His chin and ring IQ are substandard and will keep him down from true success, but he is a decent heavyweight and was at one time considered an okay prospect/contender. (given the weakness of the division)

 

Yeah, so, all is well that ends well. Nothing lost, nothing gained.

They were supposed to meet earlier this year anyway, plus he is hardly a step down from Gjergjaj or Zimnoch (whom, AFAIK, never was being officially negotiated with, just rumored).

Nothing to get alarmed over.

Chisora will knock him out and everybody will move on. They could have found worse.

 

Wtf that guy is ranked 66th in Boxrec?! How is Chisora supposed to get a title shot by fighting guys like that. I guess still better than Firtha...

 

If Pala is in decent shape then i expect this to be a entertaining fight and one that could even be pretty close.

Pala was on a 6 year unbeaten run when he lost his rematch against Airich, a fight he was winning fairly comfortably and should have won. At 29 years old he's also youngish for a Heavyweight so i'm sure he still has plenty of ambition left and will see a shot at the European title as a major chance to resurrect his career.

 

The Boxrec ranking algorithm DKSAB. Pala may not be a top fifteen heavy but there aren't 65 better than him.

Also, those don't give any indication of where someone may be ranked in each individual org. I am sure Pala is rated much higher than 66 (probably within 20) in at least one.
