The fact that Liston has a huge reach advantage is such a huge disavantage against a fighter like Marciano, in combination with Liston's inability to get into Marciano's head, in addition to the FACT that 33% is a really low punch connect for the jab, which are all made up facts, means that Liston will probably not hit Marciano often if at all.
I have been scouting for a double amputee to coach to rule the division. Arms are the biggest disadvantage in the sport.
Personally I see what some of you are getting at that Marciano with his short arms would be able to get on the inside and wear out Liston but I think Liston would be that guy who hits to damn hard for Marciano to do this. I'd expect Liston who was precise puncher to have target practice with his jab on the hard charging Marciano even possibly forcing Marciano do what he almost never did and back up just because of the shear power of the punch. I'd also expect when Marciano gets into his range for Liston to follow up on his jab and crack Marciano with heavy combinations. I'd expect Marciano to hit the canvas early and often much like Joe Frazier when he met George Foreman. I know Marciano would never give up but I feel Liston would just be to much and would either pound him till he couldn't physically stand or till the referee had seen enough. Marciano was a great warrior but I feel his skills were limited and though being possibly the toughest fighter to ever live he is still human and I don't think he be able to take the punishment that a much bigger Sonny Liston would dish out.
Inside marciano evens things up. Outside Liston has a chance to time Rocky but I doubt sonny gets a clean enough shot off before Rocky gets inside. Although Liston was a good inside fighter I think at the closer distance he would be outworked. The weight and strength issue is only a factor if Liston is allowed to have things his own way. In my opinion with no real edge in speed, defence or workrate I don't see how Sonny can capitalise fully with his physical size advantage. To me, Rocky wears Sonny down even though by rights marciano should be the underdog.
he enough of the 'Rocky is God bs!" I always mention the 'era' differences in comparing fighters of different eras but Sonny & Rock were fairly close and to 'sit there' and tell us that Rock walks right thru Liston is a frigging joke!
