    With all due respect it doesn't matter what your criteria of judging a fight is. We all know the criteria that should be used to judge a round.

    I thought Hendricks edged it but I thought Gustaffson beat Jones also. You have to beat the champion proper to take his belt, Hendricks didn't do enough in that regards, nor Gustaffson, so I can't diasagree with the verdict.

    how the feck is a 3-2 fight a robbery either way? despite the closeness of rd 1 everyone pretty much has it 3-2 which suggests to me a close fight, i thought robberies were exactly that not fights which are decided by which way the 1st round went

    Gustaffson and Hendricks should both be champs right now IMO. UFC just didn't want any more icons to get beat after Anderson got KO'd.

    Man get out of here, what kind of "champ" goes into the most important round of a close fight, singing and actin like an ass thinking its in the bank, and gets clearly beat in that round. GSP fought his ass off, Hendricks fought in spirts, but overall GSP landed more punches, kicks, more takedowns. Hendricks did inflict the most damage but it was inside 2 rounds of 5. First round was close as hell, no definitive winner, and those kinds go to the champ. Hendricks tapped anyway! GSP won rounds 3 and 5 pretty clearly. Either way it was no robbery, it could have easily gone to Hendricks had they given him that first round. Going into the 5th I said, whoever wins this round will win the fight, and GSP showed the grit and heart of a champ, making sure Hendricks didn't get his belt.
    And this was by no means the same GSP we are used to seeing, he's either sick, or he hit the wall and is over the hill now. He was weak! Showed some conditioning issues also, at times looked gassed, but his heart carried him through somehow. Maybe he is off the PEDs, something is different for sure.

    Agree, it was clearly Hendrick's round, as was the fourth, but here's my personal curveball; I struggle to pick a decisive winner for the second... there are no takedowns, Hendricks shakes GSP in the first 90 seconds but doesn't drop him, then slows down dramatically for the remainder of the round, allowing him to get off with two superman punches, a clean head kick and at least one head-spinning counter right hand... all of these were crisp, clean strikes, and as the onscreen graphic during the round shows, gave GSP the ascendancy in overall strikes landed.

    I've been back over this round numerous times and have struggled to pick an outright winner. The superficial facial damage at the end of the fight would indicate that Hendricks won, but it is not a judging criteria, and it should be noted that most of this happened in the first and the fourth, Hendricks' two decisive rounds, and the fourth was essentially won off a SLIP that allowed Hendricks to engage his GnP, NOT a takedown.

    As most punters seems to agree that GSP took the third and fifth and that Hendricks took the first and fourth, the main point of contention here must be the second, which was enough to sway the judges, who may well have "forgotten" Hendricks' strong start in light of GSP tactically strong finish (something boxing fans have seen time and time again).

    The only ones who are wrong in analysing this decision are those who call it a robbery, IMO.

    I wish we had the Pride was of scoring points. There isn't a perfect way of judging a fight but it was much better.

    My guess is it's best for him that he retires. He has been a great champion and been at the top a long times and has made a lot of money. Only he will know how much he want's to go on.

    It was clearly a very even round, which i stated directly after it, stats prove me to be right.


    Here are the stats:

    Of Hendricks' 27 total strikes, nine went to the head (eight power), four went to the body (one power) and 14 went to the legs (eight power). Twenty-two of those strikes were in the clinch, four were on the ground and one was at striking range.

    When it comes to GSP, five strikes went to the head (one power), 16 went to the body (10 power) and five went to the legs (two power). Seventeen strikes were in the clinch, nine came at striking range and zero came on the ground.

    27-26 in favor of Hendricks however GSP landed 9-1 at striking range, outboxing hendricks as i stated earlier. Most of hendricks were in the clinch (22 of 27 actually) (gsp 16 out of 26)
    14 of Hendricks were kicks, only 5 of GSPs were kicks.
    The most impressive is the in striking range strikes and GSP dominated.

    I hate it when people use stats to back up their judging of a round. You listed the total "power" strikes landed but have you seen what is often considered to be a power strike in these stats?
    Pointless.

    the point is Einstein, that when a round looks very close to your eyes, and then you see very similar stats, it simply backs up your opinion.
