Donald Curry at his best would have stopped Oscar De La Hoya without a shadow of a doubt. To fast, to quick, to sleek, to sharp and to much power. If he thought fights with Quartey and Trinidad were tough this one would be a nightmare for him.

ALL match ups of Top men at thier Real Own weights are great match ups otherwise we've no business calling them Top men.

Obviously fighters couldn't have fought men from other time periods and we can only speculate... but fighters in each others period, certainly we can comment on fighters that didn't meet and perhaps should have. always interesting, informed or not.

De La Hoya had the fire to pull a few rabbits out of the hat, but his problem here may be that he fought too clean; he let his combinations breathe, plus he was happy to fall back on his jab which would not do him any favours against a laser-like technician like Curry.

The Quartey fight has always impressed me because Oscar showed that he could grit his teeth against a quality jab and points deficit. The key differences with Donald over Ike was that the former boasted a superior defence, tight with both hands, and there wouldn't have been as much nervous posturing for the first few rounds.

Curry would get down to business straight away, landing his jab, cleverly turning it into a hook, making Oscar feel less sure of himself as he revisits his corner. That pin-point cross would soon follow, inflate his left cheek, lower his spirits and end up asking of something beyond the Golden Boy's capabilities.

A late round stoppage or points decision for Curry. Entertaining but convincing.

This is an excellent matchup. Both styles compliment one another well. The fan would be the big winner in this bout. I too would agree with the consensus. Curry by late stoppage. Too sharp, too refined. His precision combos would open up Oscar like a can of spam, but not without taking some guff from Oscar before the ref would eventually have to intercede.

No doubt they would be much tougher fights than Tito and Quartey(who almost dropped him...:good

Thing is, Oscar would climb into the ring at about 160...he's in a different weight class really. That may be significant.

Donald Curry beats Oscar in a close fight, with several exciting exchanges.12 rounder, something like 7-5, 15, 9-6.

I wish we had a return to same day weigh-in's. It's getting a bit silly now. I watched a Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight earlier today in a middleweight fight, and his weight on the night of the fight was 180. That's cruiserweight territory.

He outweighed his opponent (who came in at 165) by 15 lbs. 15!
