People who pick Groves are lying to themselves....

Dirrell ran and flobbed to the floor all night, no way he deserved to win that.
Dirrell fought for 4 rounds and looked like a deer in the headlights for the remaining 8.

actually to be fair, dirrel beat dirrel, he came to a champions backyard, fought on the backfoot and hugged all night expecting to win.

 

Couldnt understand how people on the forums thought Foch won that fight.def hometown decision and another disgrace to British boxing

 

Here's how it breaks down to me.

Dirrell was able to "beat" Froch because he was by far the fastest fighter in the division at the time.
Kessler was able to beat Froch(in a war that could have gone either way) because he had the power to get Froch's respect and was a little better technically.
Ward was able to beat Froch because he has excellent defense, is fast, physically strong, and is one of the few fighters that can actually fight on both the outside and the inside in a technical manner.

Groves has no outstanding quality to bring into play against Froch like these fighters. He's pretty fast, but not as fast as Ward or Dirrell, his speed is probably more like Bute level. He hits reasonably hard, but not as hard as Kessler. He has decent boxing ability on the outside, but not nearly as good as Ward, and he has no inside game. You could argue that he's a nice all-around fighter, but it's hard to make the case for that being enough against Froch, especially when Groves hasn't proved anything against a true world level opponent.

 

Goves will get KOd. He has good movement but too little power when on the backfoot. He won't win a brawl. He has no way to win imo.

 

:deal Its a mismatch, the only question is how long does Groves survive?, i would be shocked if Groves sees the start of the 7th round.

 

Groves is an excellent sharpshooter, and it will spell doom for someone with a leaky defense like Carl.

He's got footspeed to match his handspeed, and is 11 years younger.
That's enough to beat Froch, who's getting long in the tooth.

Ha. The irony of this quote.

The fighter who beat degale is EXACTLY the one who would be best suited to beat Froch.

If he'd fought the exact same fight he did against Degale, we'd be sitting here now talking about a one sided near shut out.

The one chance Froch has against Groves is the fact that when Groves is hit, he looks to stand and trade with his hands down. He never did this against degale. It seemed he wanted to take no chance of losing that fight whatsoever, and was determined to win a boxing match.

Against Froch and in the later rounds, he looked to trade whenevr Froch backed him up, instead of slipping out laterally. It's that which led to the (albeit ridiculous) stoppage.

If he cleans up his act and boxes sensibly in a rematch, he can take Froch back to school, and this time, leave him there.

He needs to cut the machismo out of his game and get closer to the mentality and focus he employed against Degale. If not, the rematch will go the same way.
