This is SO true. Trash talk prior to the fight benefits both but Froch's interview after the fight was really uncharming. He's so full of himself and not in a charismatic way like Haye either but straight up arrogant and someone you wouldn't want to spend your time in a pub with.
Yes. He's been hurt and recovered well before. But thanks to that w@&%er of a referee we'll never know.
Groves was the bully in the first few rounds, and out-everythinged Froch. After the halfway stage, Froch seemed to gain a bit of confidence and take the centre of the ring, with Groves on the back foot but still scoring. Premature stoppage aside, Froch would probably have stopped him, but it was a very inconclusive ending.
What was the politics behind the announcing team? Never seen anouncers cheer quite so heavily, even before the opening round. I thought Froch was popular over there? Was it just a Taylor/Hopkins thing where they've built up Groves?
He is a mini Haye style wise. He has the speed and power to KO opponents with one punch. Froch has a overwhelming type of power, but not the one punch. I've never seen Froch so shook to his boots. Had this been early in the 1st round, Groves would have finished him IMO.
Calzaghe vs Manfredo was not as bad Manfredo never had a chance anyway, he didnt knock Joe down, he didnt hurt Joe multiple times, and wasnt dominating the fight to the point where Joe needed a KO to win. Mentally this stoppage is the worst thing that can happen to a fighter, its crushing and the referee should have his boxing license revoked, and somebody in his family should suffer a major economic loss in order to make up for destroying Groves life.
I am probably in the minority, but I had Froch winning after 8 rounds, 5-3 rounds, 76-75 points, giving Groves rounds 1 (10-8 with the hard knockdown), 6 (his other dominant round), and 7 (close round). I thought the rest of the rounds, Groves spent too much time sizing up Froch in the hope of landing big shots, and while his jab was effective and he landed occasional right hands, Froch did good body work, had several extended flurries, and landed most of the harder shots. As for the stoppage, it was a quintessential horrible British referee stoppage. But I think Froch was dominating the 9th round to that point, and when the referee saw Froch snap Groves' head back with that last left hook, that's when he decided to jump in. I had predicted this would be a minor fight for Froch, and that he would easily win by midround stoppage. The fact he went life-and-death with someone as inexperienced as Groves, who had no signature wins above British domestic level except a faded Glen Johnson, suggests that Froch is now on the decline, and that he might now be well advised to look for 1 or 2 "cash out" fights, and then retirement. I think he was on his way to victory tonight if the fight hadn't been stopped when it was, but his stature in the game certainly took a big hit tonight.
? Was in the first round. Slappy slapped Manfredo a couple of times which were all BLOCKED, then the referee stopped it. Not sure what you're talking about.
