Where do you rank Froch's Hall of Fame jaw? There is a strong argument for it being GOAT in my opinion :yep The combined flush shots he took from Kessler and Groves in his last 2 fights is breathtaking!
ATG defense. It's in the subtleties. He expertly rolls with punches and his wide hand placement allows for better vision.
ATG. Have to give it to him. His chin is made of concrete. Froch was flattened, but marvelously got back up. Most fighters would have been KO'd in the first.
Pound-for-pound I'd pick Toney, Eubank and Hagler ahead of him. I think they've all faced bigger punchers and sterner tests of the durability of their chins that he has. Toney's chin had taken him from Middleweight to Heavyweight and still stood up to any test, Eubank's chin stood up to the viscous punching Benn and the heavy-fisted Watson as well as the big punching Cruiserweight Thompson and Hagler stood up to Leonard and Duran and walked through Hearns. Froch has faced some punchers in his time but it takes a special fighter at Middleweight or Super Middleweight to punch as hard as a Heavyweight or a Cruiserweight and - with all due respect to the likes of Pascal, Kessler, Abraham, Johnson and Groves - no one Froch has fought has that kind of power, and Roy Jones, Nigel Benn and Thomas Hearns were harder hitters than anyone Froch has face either. So, yeah, I count Froch's chin as very strong but not the best ever.
Froch can be knocked out so no. If he was dropped earlier in that round, it woulda probably been curtains for him. Compare that to Chuvalo
He has a great chin, no doubt. Very tough to rate chins and up to the beholder because a valid argument would be: I can't rate it ahead of Floyd Mayweather based on competition faced. I know Floyd rarely gets the jaw tested, but it is what it is. He's faced a gauntlet of opposition his whole career and only ever been KD'd once (no chin contact), and unofficially KD'd once (Zab- not shaken in the least). When "Mosley Round 2" is what people's responses will be to combat my argument, it only further proves my point.
Had he gone down 30 seconds earlier in rd 1 then the fight would have been over. He is not an ATG or GOAT when it comes to chins.
You say "not shaken in the least", I think Zab shook up Floyd pretty good, Floyds immediate change of guard, wobbled legs, and facetious smile would tell me that
Groves is a massive puncher though, I've followed his career, the kid hits like a ****in train, when you literally run on to a shot like that, its not so much wether you get put down that determines your chin, but weither you can get back up, which he did
Yeah, a bully, a bully with a great chin p4p his chin is much...MUCH better than the likes of say, Brandon Rios, and Rios has a very good chin Now you might say "yeah well Froch was dropped and Rios wasn't last night" well I would say go back and watch Brandon Rios vs Joel Ortega
Mariusz Wach has the GOAT chin. When you get hit over 200 times in the face by Wlad and you still don't go down, you are made of a materielt humanity didn't knew excist.
His chin is clearly up their with the best. He totally walked into the huge right hand in the 1st round while throwing his own right and still got straight back up. Groves could not have hit him any harder. He then takes a couple more clean right hands and still didn't go down. Froch didn't even try to hold on he just kept on boxing and while he lost the next round he was competitive. He doesn't have the defensive skills of a Toney or a Eubank who could roll with punches to take some of the power off. He just takes shots flush. How he didn't go down in the 6th is amazing. Froch took an 8 punch combo midway threw the 6th and didn't go down. Hell he was trying to throw back while eating clean rights and lefts from Groves and finished the round with Groves backed onto the ropes.
