#1 - a given. #2 and #3 are things he does, not redeeming features. All public figures are ambassadors for their home town and help out charities, usually to raise their profile and make them more money.
Or fans who actually can think for themselves and simply dont like arrogant twats in all their interviews nor his conduct post Groves fight. (Prior to his sudden U-turn thanks to mass booing) I dont know him so couldnt judge him personally, ive never took to him as a fan but enjoy watching his fights so im not getting involved but i can easily understand why people dont like him. I dont see why those who dont should be acted towards in a derogatory manner either.
Your'e just making judgements on the blokes character based on what he has said in press conferences.
Sorry I disagree. He has been caring and giving and thats why he supports charities. They are redeeming qualities. Worshiping his wife and kids are not ''A given" Plenty or parents are awful and plenty of husbands or wives do not care about their partners so much. He idolises his kids and wife. Thats a great thing to have. Should you not be playing on your DS instead of slatting one of britians best ever boxers off.
I respect anyones opinion who doesn't like him. Thats not really an issue for me. It just seems odd that some people are calling him a ****, scumbag, piece of ****, saying his family are scum etc. It's not deserved, either personally or as a boxer, especially after after everything he has done for British boxing. Some boxers have behaved far far worse than Froch inside and outside the ring. You could start a 100 page thread on boxers who far excel Froch when it comes to bad behaviour. Bowe kidnapped his wife and kids ffs sake. I meant Bowe kidnapped his own wife and kids, not Carls, haha thats how it read.
Great post, you are so right the ref has cost both fighters dearly. Some people saying groves wasnt hurt need to rewatch it, Froch landed 3 huge shots maybe 4 and Groves threw 2 weak punches in nearly a minute
"I don't need to give anyone a rematch" "The referee might have saved George Groves career" Bangs on about class when it suits him.
I actually feel for him, His legacy which he bangs on about is about to go up in smoke. If he boxes on and dosent rematch GG then it will tarnish him forever. Shame.
Great post, us British boxing fans are some of the most passionate but at the same time we are so unfair and overly critical to certain fighters. Did Froch as a man go down in my estimation, yes. Did he go down as a fighter, no the opposite. I would much rather watch a fighter like Froch who has arguably the toughest run of title fights in the last 4-5 years in all of boxing. I respect Froch 100% more than Calzaghe who looked for easy options and I notice that some of the fans who are crying bad stoppage defend Calzaghe's premature stoppages, couldn't make it up.
Agree people have gone over the top with the insults of Froch and for his family. People insulting a boxers family out of order. But Froch is not helping himself and Rob is not either. Add to that Carl Brother saying Grooves will be leaving on a stretcher gives people the opportunity to have a pop. If Carl was honest Saturday and shook Groves hand 1st time we woud not be having this thread. Everyone should remember Carl is in his late 30s. Groves is early 20s who acted more mature post fight. Think that's why it upset a lot of people. U cant fool 20k people and when Carl says people love me it would get a reaction. But no need to throw insults
My two pennies worth... Do I hate Froch for Saturday? No. He showed amazing character to come back. Do I think Froch is a nice bloke? No. He's clearly arrogant based on everything he says in interviews. There is zero humility in the man. Do I expect that in a boxer? No. He's got to have a high level of self belief and confidence to do what he's done and it's no surprise that crosses over to arrogance. If he didn't have that streak, he'd probably not be the boxer he is, because he's plainly not the most natural talent in the world. In my opinion Carl's team have to take some of the blame for the reaction to him. Someone who hadn't just been punched repeatedly in the head for half an hour should have taken him aside and had a quiet word in his ear. The crowd's reaction was obvious, so it didn't take a genius to work out that all he had to do was say the stoppage was early, it robbed me of a genuine stoppage and I feel for George who put in a massive effort. There's enough of them clowning around the ring, so at least one of them should earn their keep and keep some perspective.
