Froch then should have been saved first round after being down and looking our of it

The thing is that if the referee hadn't halted the action so early he may have hold on for the rest of the round only to come back stronger.

In boxing it's not always when you get hurt that you loose the fight.

Frochs eyes roll back in round 1.

Good recovery, 10 more seconds was needed, the ref robbed everyone from the natural ending.

He was not coming back stronger it was late in the fight, he had fought at a fast pace for much of it, he tried to slug it out hard with Froch for a few rounds too. Groves was running on empty you could see it the round before and that 9th round he was done. Froch was getting stronger and taking over, whilst Groves was fading.

Though I believe this opinion is tainted by the fact it coincided with the general consensus. If Groves was also known as someone who came on strong in the latter half of the fight the referee would not have stepped in.

He was partly a victim of his perceived credentials going into the fight, rather than what was evident during the fight.

There is the possibility that Groves very well may have got his boxing back together and hit Froch with another corker. Tired sure, but his punches weren't losing steam.

Yes they were losing steam. Froch was walking right through him. Something which he wasn't doing earlier because Groves would stick the jab in his face, and tee off with the right hand. He got marched down to the ropes and got pummeled. The dude was simply just hanging on by that point. Froch was growing in confidence and strength and Groves was fading fast. Another 3 rounds of a Froch assault on a tired, warn out Groves?? No way he gets through that still on his feet. When you are wounded the way Groves was, Froch simply would not let up. Groves would have shipped a couple more right hands because he was no longer in a position to defend himself after that right hand. Why let him take those extra shots?? It is evident he sagged off the ropes and in to the ref's arms.

Groves was not coming back from that. You could argue that the ref may have deprived Froch of a proper finish, but I cannot make a case for Groves coming back at that point.

    Groves was still throwing punches

So much for Eddie Hearn saying Froch threw "11 unanswered punches"

Froch coming back was a distinct possibility, though I think Groves made it look worse than it was because he tried to fight back while off balance, consequently shipping a couple he could have prevented by forcing a clinch.

The punch that genuinely scrambled him for a moment was a long right he took on the back of his head as he ducked down. The punches that the referee deemed were enough for him to step in did not make him droop. His legs were still there.

I understand your reasoning, I just don't think it's that clear cut. It's difficult to tell how this would have changed the complexion of the fight. Groves may have had some more surprises up his sleeve.

Either way, the referee unjustly pulled the plug.

The ref gave Froch the benefit of the doubt in round one yet Groves is not afforded the same courtesy. Why is that?? I think the ref in this case was a victim of the hype and bought into the image portrayed of each fighter... Giving Carl the benefit of the doubt whilst hastily stopping the fight at the first hint of Groves being in danger of being taken out. Incredibly unfair and disgusting bias... This is a world championship fight and judgement should be apportioned equally when making important decisions like awarding one fighter a TKO victory... The same level of benefit of the doubt should be shown to both fighters equally.

In terms of whether Froch would of went on to finish Groves had it not been stopped, I think both fighters looked spent in there and Carl Froch was burning some serious energy trying to get Groves out of there... What's to say Froch doesn't blow his lot and have nothing left in the tank to continue to lauch the sustained attack required to stop Groves legitimately... We will never know now thanks to bad decision making. IMO any true boxing fan will not see this as a true victory for Froch and there will always be an asterisk above the W, like it or lump it it's the truth.

We can only hope that Froch gives Groves the rematch that he rightly deserves.

The stoppage was straight up bull****. And those 2 scorecards at 76/75 were straight up bull****. The whole fight was fixed. Bet365.

Dude, why are you even trying to explain this. The fight was fixed and any chance they had they were gonna take. Wtf is wrong with some of you.

Explain how he is defenseless, During the whole 9th round barrage Groves was punching with Froch, bar a couple of lulls towards the time of the stoppage, nevertheless his hands were up and he was moving his upper body, also his legs were under him, he also throws back 2 punches toward the end. If you review the footage at no point does Groves lose his legs, he flops a bit due to his style of movement and tiredness, but at no point was he seriously, seriously hurt, a bit buzzed maybe but in no danger of being immediately renderred unconscious or seriously hurt

Maybe it was a fix there's no way for sure to tell. I wouldn't be surpised, based on the refs actions, if Howard was payed off
