I didn't say that though. You said he didn't want to engage or fighters turn their back because they don't want to engage. I said he was still throwing so clearly did want to engage. I also pointed out he never actually even turned his back.

 

Groves' chin was fine. He's not the one that hit the deck. Groves' stamina is fine, they were both understandably tired.

Now if he'd had the chance, he'd have stood up straight and came back. But I agree it was an early stoppage. These were not Calzaghe slaps that wouldn't hurt a fat cheating welsh ref if they accidentally landed on him - these were full on blows and could have hurt someone out on feet, seriously.

 

you don't career onto the ropes if your legs are fine, the ref didn't wrestle him onto the ropes at all, he just protected his head. But I am not saying it should have been stopped there and then, I would have preferred a better conclusion.

groves was more tired, he'd been fighting at a frightening pace. He wanted to KO froch and went all out to do it, that was clear. Bad plan, he should have been happy just going for points. the granite ogre doesn't get KOed.


Next fight, groves need to sit back some more and go for points, and he might well be world champ then.

Massive credit for froch for taking on the next best challenger and Groves for stepping up to world level within 20 fights.

The footage PROVES EVEN MORE SO that the stoppage was bad. You can see Frotch PUSH groves down, while George is defending and then you see the ref PULL groves away in headlock. You can even see Groves throw a punch.

If you think George was out, your really not good at judging fights. When your out on your feet, you cant move or keep your balance, your a punching bag waiting to fall over. Did Groves fall over when the ref had him in a headlock? No, as soon as he released the fight was stopped, he showed himself to be completely alert.

I'm not saying Frotch wouldn't have won the fight, but lets be truthful frotch fanboys.

 

If what you say is true then the fight should have been stopped in the early rounds when Froch was taking a beatdown and was too slow and lacked the reflexes to defend himself from getting mauled with right hands

Froch also made himself look like a moron in the interview after the fight

I suspect you dislike Froch, and this is colouring your opinion. I must admit I don't like him so well after last nights speech. He sounded like a true lummox. I agree that the stoppage was early in that ref should have checked baby G's eyes and given him a chance to show he was able.

A referee's job is not to decide that one fighter can take punishment and the other can't. His job is to impartially enforce the rules, which are: if a fighter is defending himself and returning punches then he should considered able to continue.
