ortiz is converted southpaw. which means floyd need pay attention more to his right hook, which incidentally passes through his shoulder. and yeah it is ortiz we are talking about here. and corley's awkwardness is due to his being southpaw. judah took some early rounds because floyd's defense doesnt work against southpaw. he tried to get off first but was countered well by judas because judah himself is fast. his offense doesnt work on southpaws. if pac is orthodox we wont have the discussion now. just watch his fights against southpaws. his jab connection rate drops tremendously. lead rights, lots of lead rights and clinches. or lead rights and move. he is more offensive minded against southpaws which plays to pacquiao's strength.
Mayweather throws 1 punch at a time usually, and picks his punches conservatively overall. Manny throws combinations so it will always appear as though Manny is faster. What we have is a classic case of quality vs quantity. Mayweather is going to land almost 50% of his punches, while Manny will look like he is landing more. The difference in speed between them is negligible. Let's say Manny is much faster(punching spped) than Mayweather though, it doesn't matter. If the disparity between Manny's speed and his opponents reflex time was so great, then it would seem reasonable that his accuracy should improve as a result. Manny's speed is not the crux in this fight. Mayweather's timing is. Mayweather's timing, foot work and superior reflexes is the edge in this fight. Mayweather by Ud.
your idea of mayweather\s timing, accuracy and footwork is based on him fighting slow plodder orthos and some southpaws. against southpaws, he is more squared up because he needs to land his lead right. his shoulder roll is useless and his jab becomes jst a gauge for distance (to effectively land the right) as it tangles with his opponents lead right, it's near useless as well. since he can not effectively counter a southpaw, he becomes offensive putting pressure on his opponents so they cant generate offense effectively. him becoming more offensive minded against southpaws plays more to pacquiaos strength.
He commits enough to make fighters gunshy. See Pacquiao vs Marquez 3. Marquez' straight rights had Pacquiao in conservation mode. That straight right was repeatedly snapping Pacquiao's head back and it made Pacquiao himself go into arm punch mode. Not at any point in the fight did Pacquiao even come close to stunning Marquez in fight 3. You could probably count in one hand the clean hard shots that Pacquiao landed that had mustard behind them. Pacquiao will be forced to lower his workrate against Mayweather or get KTFO once again vs Mayweather. First time Mayweather catches Pacquiao clean with a snapping shot, Pacquiao will have flashbacks to KTFO6!
I base it on all of his fights I've seen, and I've seen all of his fights against southpaws. Mayweather has the fastest reflexes of any fighter I've ever seen. Your summation that Floyd has only fought "...slow plodding orthos and some southpaws..." is simply false, and instead of doing a back and forth, and insulting Pacquiao(which I will not do as he is a great fighter), I will simply disagree. There is no need to discredit either of these fighters, but based on what I've seen, Mayweather wins. Hand and foot speed, and power are an advantage for Pacquiao, but intelligence, timing, reflexes, footwork are the advantage for Floyd. Combined with his reach, height, and strength advantages, and I see Mayweather winning.
Mayweather. not by much but him for sure. I seen him land a 10 punch combo on Ortiz, when he wants to let them go its a wrap.
@ illwill007, if floyd has the fastest reflexes you have seen then let me tell you a story: Once upon a time in the 90's in a kingdom called Pensacola there was this man named Roy Jones Jr. ....
Pac, he punches in combination. Void is telling us that Pac might very well beat him, even with crooked judges................Void is afraid of Pac for a reason..............
bradley is the one who is similar to floyd, not jmm. cant really understand why you keep bringing up marquez. how did bradley vs. pacquiao go again?
floyd winning is an opinion and i respect that, but it is not set in stone. i see reasons why pac can win as well. are you willing to respect that? on paper, floyd has all the advantages except maybe in power. chin used to be pac's, now it has become equal. except that, pac is a southpaw which is the equalizer for pac. example you mentioned reach. since pac is a southpaw, floyd\s best punch is a lead right. which means he needs to be more squared up or closer to pac to land it which negates his length advantage. jsut by being southpaw, pac has negated most of floyd\s adavantages: 1. his shoulder doesnt work. 2. his jab is not as effective. 3. with no. 1 and 2, not working as well as he they should, his counter punching suffers as well. this forces him to be more offensive to offset it. this also allows pac to have better chance of beating floyd than if you just based it on their attributes. styles make fights and pac's style matches up well with floyd's, not the other way around. edit: 2 or 3 yrs down the road. pac loses his footspeed or significantly reduced, stamina will be crap. pac becomes sitting duck for floyd's lead rights. i think this is the only time floyd fights pac. floyd wont/cant take/risk a loss. as long as pac is agile, has the stamina to box for 12. aint gonna happen.
I agree with some of this but.. Yes shoulder roll doesnt work as much but jab can still be effective, Mayweather never stops throwing that against anybody. and 2nd, Now the best punch in boxing right now (Mayweather's straight right) is even BETTER Against SOUTHPAWS!! Thats very very dangerous for Pac, espcially after Marquez hit him square on. Mayweather will hit him alot more then Marquez does, thats for sure. U said styles make fights and if u think Mayweather's style is not a factor against Pacquiao, I have to say your super wrong. Pac has a slimk chance in ealry rounds but we've seen from Marquez fights that Pac doesnt really adjust, he always fights the same way. Mayweather will adjust and its a wrap and i think a KO can happen
mayweather's jab isnt effective against southpaws. he uses it to gauge distance and to set up his lead right. but they are not scoring jabs, unless he purposedly jab to the head or stomach which is difficult the opponent is doing the same, the lead hands tangle. this means, he has to land hi right to score, which means he is more open to counter, just like the judah match. his right hand is better (from a defensive perspective) against orthodox bec he throws them after doding/rolling the straight right of his opponent. so there is no risk of getting countered. against southpaw, he throws it as lead, it means it not as powerful and he wont commit to it to avoid getting countered. lead right and clinch or duck below waist or stick (flick a jab, very much like bradley) and move is what, imo, mayweather be doing all night. marquez hangs his chin to counter/trade with pac so he can land his own right. mayweather doenst have the chin to do this now, maybe 2 or 3 yrs later when the fight happens when pac is sitting duck with his lead right (because floyd has reach advantage). today. not a chance. vada =no trt = no fight.
the same thing was said on dela hoya fight. i jst explained it. floyd wont be able to score with his jab against southpaw as much as he would against orthodox. jst watch his 2 recent fights, canelo and guerrero. against canelo, jab connect = 49 pct. vs. guerrero only 19pct. and those were weak ass jabs. the bulk of his punches were straight/lead right. to me, thats plenty of chances for pac. at this point, mayweather isnt as mobile than say 5-6 yrs ago, so he wont be able to sustain movement for 12 rounds. at some point he will be forced to trade with pac, and thats when the fun begins. unless of course he does his usual trt, which would show up in vada test, you know elevated testosterone levels? im pretty sure floyd wont agree to vada test. vada = no trt = no fight. edit: did i mention, floyd shoulder roll wont work against southpaws?
