You don't put quotation marks , you put inverted commas. ie ,we don't know that Joe couldn't, nor would he need to. To, not too. To is a preposition, too is an adverb. My own grammar is sloppy, but if I'm to be corrected, I don't think you get the job,
Joe was always a incoherent mumbling pair of clown shoes. I remember how he could barely put two words together in Dick Cavett show. Muhammad might be quiet now but at his prime, he probably could s**** in your mothers mouth and she would smile and say thank you.
Classy. If anything she would have **** on the cowardly draft dodger. Anyone can get in a boxing ring. It's a different ball game when people are out to KILL you, and when push came to shove he lacked the balls to put his life on the line.
He was a celebrity. Would not have seen combat. You mother would SMILE and say THANK YOU. Just remember that
You are even stupider than you act if you think he wouldn't have seen action. He was afraid of being killed, simple as that. I would advise you not to judge other peoples mothers by yours standards. if your mother has a penchant for loud mouthed cowards, good luck to her. Not everyone else's does.
This was a different war..although I dont entirely disagree with you Ali may not have been thrust to the front of the line in the Vietnam war but I dont see him getting the same kind of special treatment Louis did. Remember in this war we were getting our asses kicked. Ali didnt wanna die fighting in a war we had no business involving ourselves in, I would never go as far as to call Ali a coward for standing up for what he believed in. I dont call him a draft dodger, I call Ali a genius!
It was explained to Ali-which he likely knew-that he would not see combat when they were giving him repeated chances to step forward, then lowered the boom on him not much later. I see no evidence of fear, he did not believe in the war, followed the NOI, & followed his pinciples. He was just deeply uinprincipled with some others, like Frazier. YellowMustard, can you really BELIEVE you have much, let alone the Utmost, respect for Joe Frazier? :nono You call him names, make fun of his appearance, act just like a hater in many ways. So what about how articulate he was? This does not show his quality as a human being. Where is the evidence Joe thought he was as well spoken as Ali? Who scored really low on his IQ test you know, though was verbally facile, not educated nor evidening deep cognition. Frazier DID intervene to help Ali. And personally gae him money no questions asked, you should not dismiss this. And was deeply mocked in racist tones for years as thanks. He was betrayed. You have just chosen sides & project your animus on one party. Who is this case was legitmately & deeply aggreived. Now I want to hear-I am open to argument-when & how Ali apologized all, or any, of those times, privately & publicly. Sent an emmisary once after their fight. Joe fairly said Ali should come himself. I believe he never did. Frazier kept vacilating on accepting his apology & being vicious. But Ali was the instigator for years, consciously cruel, did not care the effect on Joe, the humilliation, what Joe did for him...Foreman I think was worng that they were like brothers & loved each other. It COULD have been, if Ali came clean & begged his pardon as he should have.
No it isn't, which was my point (seeing as the thread starter thought Frazier not knowing what an "Uncle Tom" was, was an issue). I thought we were meant to judge them as fighters and maybe as people at a stretch but not on their bloody comprehension skills.
Ali was prepared to be imprisoned for five years in defence of his beliefs. President Bill Clinton dodged the draft by being re-classified.What do you call him?
To say Ali is a coward is absurd. Apart from emphatically proving his manhood in the ring over the years, he was prepared to go to prison for five years in support of his beliefs. The statement is patently absurd. Foxy , you say you are even older than me. I know I am a crusty, curmudgeonly old sod at times, but your posts are invariably vitriloic, and filled with rage. The anger that consumes you is HISTORIC. I wonder where it all comes from? :fire:bbb:fire:bbb:fire:bbb:fire ps I expect I'll get the hate treatment now.
No hatred at all. Suffice to say comparing pugilism, and / or prison with war is absurd to say the least. The chances of being killed in the ring are minimal, though unfortunately it does occasionally happen. Ali would have definitely been well treated by the other inmates in a prison. His justification for dodging the draft was " No Vietcong ever called me the N word " He probably didn't even have a clue where Vietnam was. He certainly didn't go around giving speeches declaring it was an immoral war, or join protest marches. Bill Clinton actively protested against the Vietnam war, and only his political opponents accused him of draft dodging when in fact some senator wanted him for a program called ROTC I believe. George W Bush on the other hand did appear to dodge the draft, by getting into the National Air Guard, but somehow never building up the necessary flight hours to be sent to Vietnam. I don't think I need advice on vitriolic posts from someone who threatens another poster even to the point of getting a stand in to fight for him in his absence, thanks all the same.
