You realise a fight last 12 rounds, not 8.5 yes?

They are called the championship rounds for a reason.

Dunno how anyone can claim he was the true winner, he was winning, but what does that matter? It only takes one punch. Later part of fight was always gonne be Froch territory.

My only issue with Groves saying he was the winner is, he look exhausted.
He fought magnificently, was better than Froch in every department, and pre fight I wanted him to get battered.
But I was so impressed I'd say he's a match for even Andre Ward, his quickness be a real problem for anyone.

My belief however is the win wasn't the certainty it should have been as Groves was really tired, planting his feet and trading wide hooks with Froch, and Froch seemed to have plenty left, I don't think Groves did.

I've absolutely no doubt Groves wins the rematch should it happen(won't IMO), and that he's either 1 or 2 in the SMW division

In terms of careers, Groves was the winner. After his performance he's won over a huge number of fans, not often is a boxer boo'd into the ring, loses and leaves to a standing ovation! As for Froch unless he gives a rematch and wins that his legacy is now tainted. Good luck to George, after Saturday he looks to have a very bright future.

This "Groves looked exhausted" comment that I've seen some say is a complete myth.

He was no more tired than Froch. I was at the fight, have re-watched the fight twice now, seen the knock down in the 1st and the finish god knows how many times and don't see how Groves was out of it?

I'd bet on Groves in play, and from the 5th or 6th, my only fear was he looked tired, and I believe that was why he stayed in the pocket longer, throwing wide hooks which gave Froch a chance he didn't have earlier.

I'm not saying Froch had taken over, but I do believe he was more in the fight as a result of Groves being visibly tired and slower. He was still tagging Froch at will, but he was there longer and getting hit hard back.

I think however the rematch has only one winner and it's GG. The first few rounds was a master class.

groves ain't dumb, he'll re-examine the fight, set up a better game plan next time and train 2x as hard. There were times in that fight that i was shouting at groves to stop laying on the ropes too long and he was exchanging for longer periods than he needed to. in the rematch, he just needs to box like he did in the opening rounds for the whole fight and not get drawn into exchanges (which is where froch was able to catch him more often). Also, he needs to eradicate fighting with his hands down and showboating, and instead just box intelligently and give froch no openings at all.

He's not a one-punch KO artist for certain but I equate Froch in terms of power to someone like Cotto. Every shot is a hard shot that beats you up. And while that was a poor stoppage, I think most are so impressed with what Groves was doing and angry with the stoppage that they are giving him too much credit calling him the real winner. There was a full minute and a half of the round left and Groves was not in good shape at all when the fight was stopped. I find it not impossible, but very unlikely from what I saw that he would have survived the round. That said, a rematch is certainly warranted under the circumstances and if that's not given, Groves deserves a shot at another big fight immediately. He did prove is that he is a top-level SMW that has heart, speed, skills, and a decent chin.

Froch got the win. And the ref and judges got it all wrong - hence all the threads.
