My right hand is strongest and carries more power , i feel comfortable standing in a southpaw stance throwing the right jab but my left hand is'nt very powerful I am right handed but i do many things left handed , ie play pool , eat like a lefty. I would say i should fight southpaw but what techniques could i use to make my left better. Or should i try orthodox ?
Learn how to use your left hand and box orthodox. There is a word for a southpaw boxer with a weak left hand; victim. I think, in general, that southpaws never really become as good, you know?, because of the odd angles.
Victim ouch i dont like the sound of that , so would you say that its better to always jab with your weaker hand ? I read some where that a great southpaw combo is right jab , left hook , right cross , so unless i can get decent power and hit the target well with the left i should change
A good gauge is which foot you kick with, to explain it is nearly like writing a book. It regards your dominant eye, in regards to peripheral vision. See if i can find something, just been working on something which was puzzling.
I always ask someone "If someone grabbed your girlfriend's ass, which hand would you throw to knock him out?" In other words, which hand do you trust more to deliver a hurtful shot? It sounds from your post like you have the answer; develop that left into a jab and hook. Everyone that doesn't know how to box is in your shoes- they're right is harder, but they feel comfortable with it in front as a jab... That's because you haven't boxed enough to have a preference... That also shows you have zero left hand... Again, develop that left hand. Your left won't be weaker for long. I'm straight up ******ed with fine motor skills and things like throwing with my left, but my left arm is bigger and probably stronger in punching. Also definitely more versatile. I trust my left as much or more than my right.
There have been right handers who have successfully fought southpaw. But they are few and far between. Being right handed you are best advised to fight orthodox. There's no point having a cross punch with little power. Work on your lead left constantly. Get on the heavy bad just throwing lefts - jab, double jab, triple jab, lead hook, jab to the body, double jab to the body etc, etc.
He's not at the end. He's at the beginning and the last thing he should be doing at this stage of his training is trying to learn to fight both ways.
If someone knows or realizes you are a one handed fighter... they can just circle to your weak arm the whole fight.. and you will be inches away from their face the whole time with your strong hand. That being said.. the coordination it takes to throw a jab with your weak hand.. is no where near the coordination needed to throw a straight from your weak hand. btw try to punch more with your body, and less with your arm... It helps keeping it from feeling awkward.
