Sillakh is going to surprise a lot of people

I've got the feeling that Silakh is going to expose Kovalev. By expose I mean that he will make the fight much more competitive than most fans and analysts expect.

Silakh might not win (although I wouldn't be shocked if he did), but I believe that he will lead on the scorecards for the majority of the fight and make Kovalev look amateurish.

Hopefully that will tone down Kovalev's hype a bit. :bbb

 

I wouldn't be surprised if he gave Kovalev a tough fight. Would be surprised if he wins though, Kovalev will find him sooner or later and knock him out.

 

Sillakh is a very good fighter, much better than people would have had you believe after he lost to Grachev. Sillakh had big momentum after beating Despaigne and the loss resulted in huge blowback, which is unfair.

I expect Kovalev to win between rounds four and seven, and yes it will be competitive in spots.

But since when does winning a competitive fight against a good fighter 'expose' someone? There used to be a day and age where a fighter could lose a fight (gasp) or several fight (GASP!) over the course of their career and still be considered world class.

To me, Angel Manfredy vs Gatti was a case of someone being exposed. Or Carson Jones vs Tyrone Brunson, or Ray Mercer against Tommy Morrison.

A fighter is exposed when an opponent exploits a glaring hole in his opponent's game to decisive, devastating effect, not when someone loses rounds en route to winning by knockout.

 

There are quite a few people saying that Kovalev is the #1 in the division. Hence, he is not expected to struggle with an already-beaten, 'glass-jawed' Sillakh.

Furthermore, many are picking Kovalev over Hopkins and Ward, so struggling with Sillakh would certainly show that he is not as good as some fans make him out to be (i.e. expose).

Showing Kovalev some new looks he's never had to deal with before and winning some rounds in the process is not "exposing him". It's part of the learning process. James Tillis won several rounds against Tyson and took him the distance. It didn't stifle his hype or lead him to get beaten in his next fight. In fact he went on to flatten Berbick, Spinks et al soon after.

I hope Sillakh gives him some trouble. It can only help him.

 

i have sillakh to win this one. he looked good against despaigne and i don't think kovalev has fought anybody on that level.

btw, what is sillakh's ethnic background? is he arab or biracial?

I agree, Sillakh is way better defensively, much faster hands and hits hard. Don't think his chin is as bad as people make out, he fought arrogant against Grachev and paid the price. 50-50 fight for me but with Sillakh at 7/1 it'd be rude not to have a ittle punt

I think a lot of people are giving Sillakh the respect he deserves and know it's a tough fight for Kovalev. I've said many times that Sillakh is a good boxer and will be one of Kovalev's toughest opponents.

He's got good boxing skills, but he's also got a weak chin. He will either outbox Kovalev or get knocked out by him. I'm leaning toward him getting knocked out.

personaly i think it will be interesting to see beterbiev and kovalev on the same card, considering kovalev lost to him in the ams...im sure their will be competition between the 2 behind the scenes...like a littler personal thing where each feels they need to out perform the other....a little russian competition
