The forum has spoken, voting a Calzaghe victory over Ruiz.

Now another heavyweight challenge awaits Calzaghe. Can Calzaghe defeat the slick master boxer, Chris Byrd?

Byrd was a middleweight at the Olympics, so size would not be a big deal.
Neither would punching power, Byrd was feather-fisted.

Byrd's speed killed the bigger, slower heavyweights. He would not have that advantage against Joe. Joe is faster that Byrd.

It speed against speed. Epic workrate vs great defence.

At a catch weight of 200, who would win this Superfight between slick southpaws?:think

these boards are always hitting new lows. all of a sudden, joe would have been successful at heavyweight. embarrassing.

also waiting for the first dumb ass to say that joe beat byrd as an amateur. that fight never happened.

byrd has a win over vitali so maybe after this we can talk about how joe would have been too quick for vitali. :)

Didn't Byrd fight at light heavy?

It's like the PAC and Mayweather thing. They both destroy bigger Men, but faster smaller men give them a challenge.

Byrd owned a lot of bigger men.
But someone like Roy Jones or Joe would give him trouble.:good

I´ve seen this too several times although I have heard it´s not true. It´d be good to have a decent site like boxrec but for amateur bouts. Would probably be too much hard work. :deal

It would be especially when u consider some of these Cubans and Russians have like 300 fights. In order to do it u would have to either have no life or it's be paid for it like a 9-5 full time job. :)

Prime HW Byrd beats a prime SMW Joe Cal or an over-the-hill LHW Joe Cal.

If we are talking about their brief period overlapping at light heavyweight (spring 2008; when Byrd cut a bunch of weight and lost all his punch resistance along with it, humiliatingly dominated by a not-even-domestic-level regional journeyman in May a month after Calzaghe eked out a split decision over timeless Bernard Hopkins) - then you can favor Calzaghe.

The 175lb version of Joe that fought Bernard overwhelms and maybe even stops the contemporary 175lb version of Chris that fought Shaun George. :fight

If you mean to imply that Calzaghe ever could have risen up to HW to challenge Byrd while Byrd was active in that division - then no. Byrd shuts him completely out.

Well you came off more spastic than agitating. My instinct was to pity you, not ban you. :yep
