Groves vs Golovkin @ 168

Probably Groves by murder.

 

I'd favour Groves because he has actually fought at 168 before but it's a pick'em really.

 

Groves is good, but he loses to GGG the same as he lost to Froch (ie broken down later rounds), 'cept he wouldn't look as good doing it.

 

Accidentaly voted for stiff british gingerhead. Golovkin takes it!

 

Groves stops him. Golovkin is elite and can rule 160 but his frame looks maxed out there, he would be better off dropping down to 154. Groves is too big, too strong GGG would get punished

When was Groves 'broken down' in the later rounds?

Golovkin was fighting the Dirrells and Butes of the world in the ams.

How can you call him stiff? If either of them are stiff it's Golovkin.

 

Talk about changing the ****in tune, backtrack a little and remind us how much you bigged up Bute prior to Froch punching him ****in senseless in 15 minutes. :rofl

 

How is that changing the tune? He's saying GGG isn't so small and that he was fighting Dirrell and Bute who are both at least as big as Groves.

 

My take on the fight is unpopular, but it helps to watch it without the commentary.

Whilst Groves is headhunting (though without really landing anything that even wobbles Froch until he gets through one time in 5 or 6) Froch is steadily landing to Groves' body.

By 6 Groves' perfectly tense triangle posture is ragged, his hands have started to droop and he's fighting a portion of the subsequent rounds mouth open.

IMO Groves actually fought the perfect fight, and gave himself the very best chance of winning by utilising his advantages in speed and technique early. Ultimately though he failed to stop Froch and did lose the fight. I'm not going to argue that the stoppage was OK but, despite Groves managing to get his feet back under him for a few seconds he was very close to being KOd.

 

No he's not, he comes into camp at a lean-ish 168-170. Bulking up to SMW is plenty feasible and is likely a long term career move. :deal
