    That's bull****. Plenty of fights have ended in a retirement with the ref and/or physician involved with the boxer and/or his corner in open dialogue while he is on his stool during the minute's rest.

    Yes I've seen that, but generally disallowed in Australia. However, there's a couple of refs that think they're bigger than boxing, likewise 1 doctor in State of Victoria, who thinks he's totally in charge. All were told to ditch their ego & brush-up on rules.

    The health of both fighters is the referee's responsibility once the bout has started.

    The referee was in Mosely's corner prior to the bell sounding for the 7th round because Mosely's injury had been identified to him and as a result he took Mosely across to the doctor.

    The ringing of the bell by the timekeeper was incidental to what was going on in the ring and Mosely made no attempt to answer the bell.

    Point I'm making, corner didn't retire during rest period, albeit intention....of sorts. Ref stopped the fight after Timekeeper sounded start of round 7, therefore, round 7 it was

    I didn't make a statement about what is written in a code of rules, in Australia or anywhere else. I made an observation about what is actually common practice in the sport globe-wide, based on watching probably quite a bit more of it than yourself.
