This is being seen as a close fight. The poll results, bookies odds, fans opinions etc., all indicate that few people are prepared to commit strongly to one boxer or the other.
Nobody wants to pick a winner.

Sturm is being written off by a lot of casuals to easy, this is a very hard fight for Barker especially in Germany, all this talk about after Sturm who Barker should fight ect, There is a very strong chance Barker won't be champion after December 7th, not saying he can't win it's a 50/ 50 fight IMO won't be shocked at all if Barker get's KO'd

Good points, interesting you mention the ko.

How close Barker came to being ko'd by Geale is quite shocking. But for 1 second (ONE SECOND!) Barker would be coming into this fight with "L by bodyshot ko" on his record for his last fight.
When you consider that Sturm is coming in with "W by bodyshot ko" for his last fight.....

But for "one second" we would all be looking at this fight very differently IMO.

Also remember that was not Sturms first bodyshot ko.

Is this a case of "Get your excuses in first", Stevie?

It's really hard to pick. I keep thinking surely Sturm has seen better days now, but we all know that this is very much the case with Barker with all his injuries and woes. I hope Barker's elation at being the new champ could drive him through on points. Wouldn't be amazed if now he's achieved his goal that he flopped badly though.

Yes i agree i mean fair play and full credit to Barker for winning but don't forget how close he came to loosing, as you said 1 second more and he had an L. Sturm at home in Germany is a very tough fight for Barker, rest assure for Sturm this may be his last title shot he is going to give this everything, to win Barker has to be as good if not better then he was Vs Geale.

I think you're over emphasising that shot - Barker has never been down before, as far as I'm aware, from a bodyshot; until there's further evidence that he has a susceptibility to those shots, it's rational to reserve judgement and write it off simply as a one-off, good shot by Geale.

I never mentioned the possibility of a ko ending in my summing up earlier in the thread and in fairness to him, "second to none" did, so I was just addressing his point.
Darren does have that thin reedy torso that looks like a good target to aim at, and Felix has stopped people before with body shots.
A Sturm stoppage win can't be ruled out. The last two Brits went the distance but they are exceptionally tough men, barker has always looked a bit more fragile to me.
How do you think it will go?

Evening rhodesie, always go with the head my friend! the heart will get you killed every time!
I admire a man who sticks to his convictions.
Speaking of which, when this fight was announced there was a stampede of posters on here touting for a Barker win. Where are they now?
They have gone all quiet as d-day approaches.
I'm talking about such learned boxing gurus as emallini, chip chair, lewishamboy, IB, JW1989, Josephd86, drozzy, daveyboyes***uk to name just a few.
Josephd86 said "barker will definitely out-battle him" as I recall.
Where have they all gone? Was there a plane crash with 'em all aboard or what?
    Calling all Barker-backers:
Come out, come out, wherever ye are.....:) :good

I think barker wins on one technical note; his distance control is prob his best asset. He always brings it up wen talking abt other fighters and he very rarely takes a flush dig. Sturm requires you to stand in range to unload in the last 30 secs of each session, and i dont think barker will let this happen. Half steps and flurries. Hel take the geale blueprint to beat sturm 8-4 i think FWIW

Good point, Alex ...Sturm is very "wooden" in his movements, particularly the legs. If Darren is to win distance control will be vital for him.
Darren is by no means a no-hoper in the fight. He has probably got better versatility, variety and movement.

The poll is feefty-feefty, but strangely the Barker fans are not expressing an opinion to back up their vote?????
