Has Hearn signed too many domestic/euro level fighters?

Paul McCloskey, Tony Bellew, Gregor Proska, Gavin Rees all didnt quite make it.

Stephen Smith, Kevin Mitchell, Anthony Crolla probably wont either.

TBH I didnt think Darren Barker would have won a world title either but huge credit to him. Kell Brook has a real shot I think.

Hearn really needs to get Groves signed up as after Froch & Burns his world class level operators will be very light.

 

Burns isn't going to be champion for long, crawford will box his head off.

Froch has 1 maybe 2 fights left in him depending on whether he takes the groves fight.

Groves is the real deal, the best fighter in the country, he can fill out any venue in london and probably do well around the country too with the support after the froch fight.

Brook is again mando for the IBF. He's going against a tough welterweight in alexander and i give alexander the edge in skill and experience. Plus judging solely by brooks last performance on the road where he was nervous to **** against a nobody who took him 6 rounds to get rid off alexander could take the fight away from brook pretty quickly.

Quigg is a world class fighter, i just think rigo, frampton and santa cruz are better.

The talented lads coming through are promising, smith, yafai, canpbell and joshua but their going to need 3 - 4 years to get to world level. One of the 4 will probably not make it.

The rest are euro level at best.

he only has billy joe and frankie gavin although hes two have the potentila to be real special.

I could be wrong-I've no idea how much he has spent & maybe Sky is the draw rather than £££s. Just speculating.

 

Agree with pretty much all of this. Groves is a key signing now-especially after losing Frampton. After this there is a gap until the novices mentioned come through & no guarentee they'll stick around.

 

A lack of true world class operators is more a symptom of British boxing's condition as a whole (it's actually very good, we're just lacking for elite guys atm) than it is of Matchroom's stable. They've made the best of what's available.

With the prospects they have it'll be interesting to see how things look 2-3 years from now.

I have a feeling things might be for a while anyway a bit sticky for Matchroom, i mean Froch is nearly done and he is there marquee fighter, Burns won't be champion as soon as Crawford get's a shot, Bellew is now well away from world level, Barker could well loose to Sturm but then again other big fights for him even if he does, the likes of Fielding, Yafai, Stephen Smith, Crolla, Coyle are all decent but certainly not world level. On the plus side they have the best prospect in Britain in Callum Smith, also Cambell, Joshua ect things will go downhill for matchroom for a while when IMO they might have 1 or 2 champions no more, but will pick up once there prospects start stepping up

Seems we will be looking forward to more boring Matchroom cards. Hearn at the very least needs to match his established fighters harder then he did on the Froch v Groves undercard.

I reckon all Wazza has to do is give the Hearns enough rope and they will hang themselves. I don't seem them having any PPV fights after Froch goes. The British/Euro level fighters Matchroom has signed won't keep Sky or the regular punters excited.

What I can see is really good domestic match ups, LightWeight especially. Groves is a must signing for Hearn. I wonder if he'd look at working with Fury also.

 

Fury won't leave fat Mick imo. He's got that nutso hardman kind of loyalty about him. Plus he basically promotes himself anyway!

 

Just to add outside of Froch, Kell Brook and Prizefighter the rest of Hearn's shows have registered some of the lowest boxing viewing figures Sky has ever had so if that continues then Sky will cut their boxing budget once this one runs out.

You also have to see what happened last time the Hearns were in Boxing, they at the two biggest British attractions at the time in Chris Eubank and Naseem Hamed but as soon as that went tits up they left boxing instantly leaving a whole load of boxers on the scrap heap.

The Hearns are Carpet Baggers, they don't care about boxing but rather making a quick buck from it, Eddie has already stated that the only reason they're in boxing again is because of the Sky contract and if they didn't have that they'd be out of boxing again.

The Hearns are also known for being tight wads and penny pinchers even at the cost of the boxers themselves and their safety. Just read the report into the terrible errors that nearly cost Michael Watson his life.

 

i hope to god Matchroom don't leave boxing in the state they did last time, They need more big name fighters, Matchroom badly need to sign Groves, who will they have once Froch is gone, Burns is beaten, Brooke looses to the top 147 fighters, Barker looses his title ect

 

All that Matchroom can do is try to sign the best talent in the country, not all of them will go on to world level, that doesn't mean they can't have success or fill stadiums at British and Euro level. There's still good business to be had. There's also a lot of potential in the Matchroom stable - Selby, Callum Smith, Joshua, Campbell to name a few.
