Holyfield and Bowe Vs Bert Cooper. How did Bowe make it look so easy?

your right, but that wouldn't explain not being able to slip punches, like i said before,he was never trained to be elusive.

reach is important but well trained elusive fighters like tyson, norris and qawi had no problems with reach/height(in there primes).

Shorter fighters always prepare for the bigger guy!..Bigger guys tend to take the little guy lightly

One my favourite performances by young Bowe, nice to see a thread on it.

Cooper did well in the first round, crowding Bowe & working away on the inside. The second round is a different story, Bowe stays on the back foot creating the space for him to use his superior range.

Bowe was a horrible match-up for Cooper, a big, powerful & durable guy with a good inside game & a long, snappy jab.

I don't agree with the posts that say Cooper wasn't up for this fight, he looked sharp & dangerous, he came to fight but was never gonna beat Bowe.

You are wrong..........it was Bowe who he caught sleeping and Cooper had a very good first round, he definitely came to fight and he was not going to lay down.

However, between rounds , Futch read him the riot act, some thing like WTF are you doing, got Bowe fired up and that was that as far as Cooper was concerned.

Cooper biggest enemies were hard core drugs., he was once a Frazier protege destined for better things but a disgusted Joe got rid of him due Coopers bad habits.

i disagree, orlin norris was 5'9" little power and consistently beat larger good fighters.i think it was his drug problem and he didn't master the "shorter man" defense like norris and tyson.the fighters are just as tall in the cruisers.

The Long Count said "Bowe was big man and had great leverage on the smaller Cooper. Cooper won the first round but he wasn't good enough or big enough to beat bowe."
I reply, carl williams was a big man long reach, why was he crushed by 5'10" tyson? Or 5'9" norris knocking out 6'6" eddie richardson in round 1?

Futch wasn't in his corner that night, he'd had a hip replacement or something similar & was still recovering.

Holyfield fought Cooper at Cooper's very best.

Cooper was hot and cold, he liked to party. He had wins over H. Tillman W12 (close), T. Booze SD12, W. de Wit KO2, O. Norris TKO8, and Joe Hipp KO5. He also had losses to R. Gross LKOby8, Truth Williams LKOby8, E. Martin L12 (close), N. Miller LKOby7, G. Foreman LKOby2, R. Mercer L10, and R. Bowe LKOby2.

Holyfield took Cooper lightly, went for a quick KO in his hometown and dropped Cooper with a body shot in the 1st. Cooper rocked Holyfield into the ropes in the 3rd and the ref ruled it a standing 8 (correctly). Holyfield beat Cooper in every other round but Cooper did put up a good fight. He rose to the occasion. He did well vs. Moorer before being stopped, LKOby5. He dropped Moorer twice.

I often wondered what happened between him and Joe. I read an article online that Cooper was even caught using drugs at the gym, makes you wonder how many chanced Frazier gave him!?..But yes Bert was is own worst enemy how effed up do you have to be to make a fool out of yourself in front of Frazier like that?

Cooper was actually a short notice second choice sub. The first opponent was to have been Tyson who pulled out with rib injuries he blamed on the second Ruddock fight, than Damiani got injured, and Cooper took the opportunity and made the most of it.

Evander also just didn't have the fire power to knock Cooper out or make him quit early. Foreman, Bowe, and Corrie Sanders all blew Cooper out much quicker and easier. Cooper also interestingly went the distance with Mercer in a tough fight and gave the vulnerable Moorer a very hard fight.

Are you sure ? I still believe it was Futch .....anyway whoever was in Bowe's corner got him fired up. From memory, it was a undercard fight, forgot what the main event was.
