If you think his punches are telegraphed, I think your looking at it wrong. Keep in mind that his number one priority seems to be never being off-balance. If a punch is not going to connect, or connect solidly he usually lets it go pretty slow and without much mustard. If a punch has a good chance to connect well, it moves quicker and hits harder.

Also, most of his punches are actually feints. He keeps his hands busy, and from many angles, especially if theyve got earmuffs on an opponent has a hard time telling which shots will hurt and which wont. These feints are thrown at variable speeds.

This is how even tough men who defend well get worn down. Its also why he doesnt get caught by hard JMM type counters. His speed when it matters is actually very good, though no its not the best but its still well above average.

But despite what Kellerman says, he doesnt throw everything hard. He also doesnt throw everything fast. But he does when it matters, and thats part of why he is so dangerous. The second left hook that downed Stevens for instance was neither telegraphed, nor slow, though he sacrificed a bit of oomph like that as Stevens got up.

As for defense, he rarely gets hit clean. Honestly I can only think that people who think he has problems with defense only recognize FMJ type defense. He is a pressure fighter, and when you are a pressure fighter the other guys gloves are going to touch you. But its actually pretty rare where the other guys gloves touch him in a manner that does any actual damage. This is key.

I am a Golovkin fan simply because I cannot work out a style or strategy that would likely beat him, and that facinates the he'll out of me. Same with Ward and Floyd.

I think qwert may have been making a point more along the lines of "IBO mandatory? So ****ing what?" - a sentiment I agree with.

Thing is, most of that I agree with - but so the **** what about being the IBO champion? Golovkin is also the WBA champion, which actually does mean something (even with there being several WBA champions at once in every weight class...:!:)

Since when did the IBO begin to matter?

Golovkin could (and probably should) drop that belt in the garbage and his career wouldn't suffer in the slightest for it. The IBO couldn't be any less relevant.

So, yeah - "IBO mandatory?"

That in and of itself doesn't make Adama magically less of a dud foe.

Golovkin is a beast. Walking through Ossie Adama won't help prove that.

...and yes, I realize other top middles are not calling him out. I'm not blaming Gennady for the situation - but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck. It would be one thing if Golovkin were just the IBO champ and this was his mandatory. The fact that Adama right now gets to challenge for the world title of a 'big four' meaningful org sucks.

the alphabelt soup situation is the worst thing that has happened to boxing. so many fights not made. if this existed decades ago some of the biggest fights of the century probably would not had happened.

Golovkin is the best middleweight living today. He will beat Adama, no doubt about it................but will Golovkin ever get Quillin to fight him? How about Barker or Martinez? I doubt it, but he is trying.................

    :rofl :stfu

It was a mismatch shutout, 120-108 to Geale. That one Polish judge should have been suspended for producing that card. (very inconsistent, although to his credit his scores for Pulev vs. Thompson and Murat vs. Campillo II were the best of the panel, whereas in Geale vs. Adama his was the worst...)

Bull crap the dumb Aussie commentators were just scoring every round to Geale, watch it without the sound, it was a close fight.

The scores were only wide because it was in Geales backyard Tasmania.

No, they were wide because Adama never won a round. The closest you could get to giving him one was the eighth, in which he came forward and landed some body jabs but still got drastically outworked despite Geale essentially taking it off (by his standards). Except for jabs on the body everything Adama threw in the eighth hit shoulders/arms or missed. Geale meanwhile flurried in his face repeatedly.

The other eleven weren't nearly as close.
