Joe doesnt have a divided fanbase.

His fans are his fans and his haters are his haters.

There are neutral observers who recognize his greatness while at the same time, don't like him as a fighter.

Any neutral observer knows he's a top 10 ATG at SMW. Only his dksab haters criticize his resume.:nono

He didn't want to truly test himself because he didn't fancy his chances, he said so himself and it shows in his resume, that's all there is to it really.

Joe calzaghe did get the crown Jewels when he battered superman jones jr

calzage beat bhop with jones at ringside and beat jones with bhop ringside to find out who was the real man after all those years....then bhop and jones fought to find out who was second best..

We all know what went down here, so stop trying to kid yourself:deal

Hopefully one day roy jones can follow in the unassailable joe calzaghe's footsteps and be a First Ballot Hall of Famer

Exactly!!! At the end of the day, Joe was happy defending his obscure title against fringe contenders for pretty good money. Then he saw an opportunity to cash out on fights with Hopkins and Jones. The end.

Joe's fans care waaaayyy more about his legacy than Joe ever did. It's proven the way that his sub-standard resume is defended tooth and nail by his fans anytime someone challenges it. I mean the quotes from his book tell you everything you need to know about how much Joe cared about his legacy.

I don't have an issue with any fighter making as much money as he/she can for getting punched in the face. However, since that's the case with Joe, then lets call it what it is and stop pretending as if Joe was out seeking the best possible fights for competitions sake, because that simply isn't true. He fought two reality show contestants for ****s sake. Joe wanted to make as much money as possible and retire unbeaten. Mission accomplished.

    Great post! :good

He was content doing what he was doing.

    Which was fair enough.

But he always played the 'I was avoided card'

Who the people were is pretty irrelevant considering the fact that Joe himself said "He doesn't want tough fights, knew his limitations and had mouths to feed". IDK about you friend, but that sounds to me like a guy who wants to take it easy and get paid a lot of money.

As far as Bika goes, congrats for him on winning a VACANT title on what his 3rd or 4th try. I don't know if in your mind the fact that Bika has a strap in an age where there are countless "World Champions" somehow upgrades Calzaghe or not. How is Manfredo doing btw?

that's blatantly not true, Rocky Marciano was unbeaten and is well loved.

Joe is disliked for making a mockery of what a world title should be. He helped hold back the development of the wbo.

defending against guys who have barely fought more than a 6 round fight, against tv show contestants, unranked opps, unknowns, guys who had lost eliminators instead of the guy who won, and so many retirees. His resume is awful.

froch, benn, eubank, Kessler would all go on unbeaten runs of 46-0 with his opposition. guys like roy and toney would do it in half time.

Divided because you have one side who won't give the guy a stitch of credit and the other side which exaggerates every bit of credit he could get. Personally, i have him nestled snugly between a deserving IBHOF fighter(because let's face it, 46-0 is great, and there were some tough fights in there) & not-quite ATG(because let's face it, out of all those fights, only 4 or 5 were meaningful.)

Anyway, I fully expect the debate to rage on.
