Hopkins and Jones fights are discounted as they were at light heavyweight, if you're judging him on a super middleweight basis. Ward at super middleweight has a better career already.

I know Calzaghe slapped a bit but people act like the guy had no power. He nocked Eubank on his ass. Eubank had a fantastic chin Ward, Bika, Froch, Kessler none of those guys could do that if they faced him. Calzaghe threw lots of punches and put power into some of them thats what made him so difficult to face you didnt know which punches where going to hurt.

Ignorant fools like you praise Joe's lack of ambition.

Roy COULD have stayed at SMW for 14 years like Joe did, but chose not to.

Anybody that's world class who fights in a division for 14 years, will have the best stats.

Now as I've told you before, Roy couldn't deal with King in the mid 90's, which made fights against Benn and Liles extremely hard to make.

So he went to LHW and unified, beating Griffin, De Valle, Hill and Reggie Johnson etc.

    Now what did Joe do?

He held a lightly regarded WBO belt, (that he won after beating a faded Eubank) and his biggest wins were against Lacy and Kessler.

Lacy was in 2006, Kessler was in 2007.

That's 9 and 10 years after he first became champ.

What did he give us in between those fights?

Salem, Mkrtchyan, Veit, Thorberry, Starie, Reid, McIntyre, Woodhall, Sobot etc.

So you're going to criticise Roy, but praise Joe?

What sort of career would Joe have had, if Roy had've made the decision to stay at 168?

Hmm even though I think the guy is overrated and gets so much praise because he is probably the best british fighter ever but on paper he is the best SMW fighter.

at least 10 who would beat him, and the list will get progressively longer as the division moves out of its adolescence.

Well, Calzaghe was the champion for a decade and defended his title over 20 times, then moved up and won Light heavyweight championship and retired undefeated. It's yet to be surpassed.

I don't know if his stats will ever be surpassed.

Joe was content to spend 14 years of his 15 year career at SMW. But I don't think Ward or anyone at elite level today, or in the near future, will be willing to do that. There's been many great fighters who've fought at SMW, but none of them have stayed there as long.

Joe defended his lightly regarded WBO belt over 20 times, against mainly subpar opposition. Again, I can't envisage a guy like Andre trying to replicate that.

Any great fighter who spends 14 years in a division, should have the best stats.

Statistically, Joe has to be the best SMW of all time. But that doesn't mean he was the best fighter to ever fight at the weight.

I think he is. I mean when you think of the greatest HW or LW people will say Ali and Duran. For SMW it has to be Calzaghe because like Ali and Duran he basically unified the different belts and often dominated his competition.

    The best without a doubt.

    Best resume
    Joint top amount of defences
    Longevity
Won - WBO WBC IBF WBA

Regardless of titles, its the resume that stands Calzaghe out as the best and many on here do not know the SMW division over 10 years ago.
