What a WAR!!! I scored the fight for Kirkland through 5 rounds, 4-1 rounds, 49-46 points, giving Tapia the 1st round. Tapia had a HUGE 1st round, moving Kirkland around the ring while landing everything at will to the head, including jabs, straight rights, left hooks; Kirkland had his hands halfway up but was still getting hit. But even at the end of the 1st round, Tapia went rope-a-dope, allowing Kirkland to work the body and fire some uppercuts. From the 2nd round onwards, Kirkland was able to pin Tapia against the ropes and in the corners for almost 3 minutes each round, and he was landing his own shots at will, doing hard work to the body and landing uppercuts and hooks to the head. Kirkland won ALL his rounds this way, and he had Tapia stuck in the corner in Round 6 when Smoger FINALLY stopped the fight. Did Tapia have punch himself out in 1 round? Did he have a poor camp? Whatever the reason, he was a stationary target for Kirkland from the 2nd round onwards, and Kirkland worked him over like a heavy bag. Tapia had a few flurries in the 3rd and 5th rounds, but never really troubled Kirkland after the 1st. This was the kind of war of attrition that Kirkland, when paired with Ann Wolfe, practically specializes in. Big win for Kirkland, this keeps him relevant for major TV fights. Smoger should have stopped the fight after the 5th round, but otherwise did a good job.

Kirkland is still crap but he puts on the kind of show that uncle Bob thinks the fans want, and is the reason GB, Showtime and Haymon is fully taking over boxing. And thats a good thing.

Kirkland doesn't hit that hard. More of a volume guy. A hard puncher would destroy him in my opinion. No defense.

Canelo, I don't get nor have I seen why people hype him so much. He's an average flat foot boxer. Looks great against smaller guys that stands in front of him.
