Beat down style fights have never bothered me in the slightest, but this one wasn't very enjoyable. Tapia just had nothing since the 2nd round and this fight went on way, way too long.

The action would go: Kirkland lands 15/20 sloppy punches in a 10 second time frame, Tapia throws back a half hearted slap or two, repeat. I think it's made worse by the fact that no real boxing skill was shown except in the first minute by Tapia. Kirkland has very crude skills for the level he fights on but is carried by his excellent stamina, power, and aggression.

Tapia is only 23, and seems to have decent skills. He will likely lose a step and never fully recover from this kind of beat down. His corner seems like the type to ride a prospect until they bust, then find another.

You can't put all the blame on the corner though. This is boxing. Just one of the uglier sides.

tapia lives near by but i have to call it like i see it i don't see much in him at all he hsa zero footwork or head movement and no defense.

his corner was pure amatuer hour. did you see when his trainer, i believe prior to the last round, told him to jump up and down up and down and tapia looking at the stars

I guess I don't know enough to say he has good skills, this is the only fight I've seen of his. He looked good in that first round though. Zero defensive gameplan when under pressure however. Sitting on the ropes and his hands weren't even pinned to his chin, what the hell was that.

It was a War, but Tapia took too much punishment and his Boxing career could be over..

    I wouldn't call it a war.

Heavy bags move more than Tapia after the 1st, and do about the same damage to you.

Awkward situation...Kirkland was totally punched out and just moving his hands into Tapia's head, and Tapia was completely concussed to the point where all he could do was stand there and stick his face out. I think it would have gone all 10 if it hadn't been stopped, and Tapia would be dead. Kirkland didn't have the juice to stop him and Tapia wasn't recovering.

I am particularly impressed with Kirklands bodyshots.

Once he got you on the ropes, inflicting damage, you're in for some trouble.

I think hometown had a huge effect on his corner to not stop it. Undefeated and in your backyard. Nearly 60% of the crowd came out just for Tapia. It should have been over after the 2-3rd. You could clearly see he was no where near as fast and was barely there. It was brutal to watch and the crowd just cheered louder. Hope Tapia recovers well tho.

Was one of the weirdest fights ive ever seen, they both completely gassed after 1 round

Tapia looked so sharp like he was gonna outbox Kirkland all night then he literally stood on the ropes not even blocking

    What?

    Kirkland wasn't gassed?
He was breathing heavy, but he was putting on massive pressure and constantly throwing punches, hardly gassed imo.

The shots he was throwing were terrible, I dont know if it was his gameplan to keep hitting Tapia but they werent as hard as the shots he kept hitting Angulo with

He certainly wasn't gassed. He threw something like 100 punches per round after the 1st. Looked pretty strong to me.
