finally , an easy question. if hearns knocked him out (or would have if their fight continued) 5 years earlier at a lower weight which was still too high for duran , what would nunn which knocked out sumbu kalambay in 1 round do 5 years later at a yet even higher weight ?
but duran is one of the overrated here. i must say that i had and still have a lot of respect for him as a very good p4p fighter , but the vintage posters here will consider him taking wladimir klitschko the distance at a 270 catchweight.

Nunn takes Duran to Catholic school in the form of a UD.

 

By this point,Roberto could no longer handle slick moving types. Iran Barkley came to him,and Duran could still counter pretty well.

 

GTFOH Iran Barkleys best shots didnt even fade Duran around that same time,and Barkley hit alot harder than NUNN. Also Nunn was not a puncher that Kalamby shot was a fluke, he could pop a little bit when he sat down on his shots but he didnt to that too much. If you were a boxing fan back then you would know that!

Ok Duran is my favorite all time fighter but Nunn would easily outbox him,Duran could no longer chase down those movers by this time and his speed wasnt anywhere near where it use to be,to be able to counter Nunn effectively. However there is no way Nunn would knock out Duran,So many times Nunn looked like a future ATG and other times he would slap his way to a boring decision. I think he plays it safe here and wins a boring decision,not a good matchup thread maker. In 89 I remember thinking this was not a good matchup for Duran, Even Leonard off the Lalonde win in 88 and Hearns draw didnt want no part of Michael Nunn.

Even the duran of 83 did'nt have the legs to chase down Nunn, Duran's just to small/old & Nunn's to big/young.

I recall a radio interview way back then when duran was asked what he thought of Nunn & in typical duran speak he replied "he's a ****in *****" I keeeel heeem, let him fight me like a man & not like a dog on roller skates:rofl the reply was in spanish & thats how it came out roughly in translation

 

Hate to say it but it would be an easy nights work for Nunn. As long as he boxes, it's hard to see him losing many rounds.

 

(1) true that the chance of a TKO or RTD is bigger here than a KO
how could duran withstand this punishment for 12 rounds he could not withstand leonard's punishment thier second time at 147 ? duran was a great fighter but he had nothing to offer against nunn. simply too big for him. and skilled. and athletic.
(2) but how can you ignore nunn KOing kalambay and duran KO'd by hearns at 154 ? barkley was a bigger puncher than nunn ? and hearns was also bigger puncher than nunn ?

 

I'd favour Nunn in this one. To just be to slick, fast, youthfull and hungry for a aging Duran......

Duran could KO him while behind on points. Leonard ran like a lil ***** in winning decisions where he did not look great either. If Duran was in top shape he was near unbeatable. He could easily get inside and if he went inside against you you were ****ed. Duran was not often on the receiving end of big punishment in his long, illustrious career.

Okay, Duran could get outboxed by Nunn, it is a good chance, but Duran faced harder punching, stronger men than Michael and Duran beat them. Even in the No Mas fight SGL had trouble landing any real leather on the weight drained Duran and Leonard was a slicker boxer (although running like a hooker)
