I don't think Chavez Jr was ever going to duplicate his father. He made plenty of money considering his skill set. I say he is lucky his name is Chavez Jr. The kid is good no doubt, but he was never going to be Chavez Sr, AND HE WOUDNT HAVE MADE NEAR THE MONEY OR GOTTEN HAVE THE CHANCES HAD HIS NAME BEEN LETS SAY: CHICO ESCUELA!

In a lot of ways he overachieved and that's why he could give a **** about training. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and answers to himself. He has the luxury to say **** training, lets go to Acapulco drink beer, smoke good weed and **** some bitches in the pool. I'm Chavez Jr. I'm rich *****

if he put maximum effort and discipline into his boxing he could be great, but that's probably never gonna happen. yes he has overachieved considering the amount of effort he has put in but imagine what he could do if he actually cared. his kid brother has the same last name and he hasn't done ****, jr actually has potential.

A guy from round my way springs to mind, he was a heavyweight, very good amateur, his brother was no where near as talented butstuck at his boxing and has fought for british titles etc, whereas he has been in and out of prison, wont of been the goat by any stretch of imagination but thats just one example

He's how I thought of the thread. I was thinking about how good he would have been with the right attitude and work ethic. I always thought he was more talented than Floyd. Just didnt have the same drive.

Dont think he's the biggest underachiever ever.

Hamed. Shoulda been an all time great but remembered as a clown.

Also, Ike Quartey, Harry Simon & Paul Spadafora didnt fulfil their potential imo.

How the **** is Zab an underachiever? He made it to the highest levels in boxing?

If anyone is an underachiever, it's DIRRELL.

    PERIOD.

Not Zab. Quit making excuses for Zab's losses. He did a great job.

Zab never shows up for big fights, and will be more remembered by who he loss to rather than who he beat.

He shows up and sometimes wins sometimes loses.

Mentality is part of the game, is it not?

Maybe his pain threshold is lower than most guys. Maybe he's more susceptible to body shots.

Something is triggering his mind to quit.

There are a lot of talented guys out there, guys more talented than Zab; however, they lack the mental fortitude to succeed.

But that's the best they can do.

An underachiever to me is Dirrell who just quit completely. It's not like Zab doesn't train hard. He keeps his body in shape, he doesn't gain a lot of weight.

He's a hard worker in the gym.

Bowe is a good example of wasted potential because he was lazy and fat. Zab is neither lazy nor fat.

Hamed only talked an ATG game, he never delivered even a fraction of the crap he spewed.

Hamed is out of this discussion, he's someone that was exposed by the first real fighter he ever stepped into a ring with.

Andre Dirrell has been mentioned and he is for sure the biggest waste of talent his generation has seen anyway. I never understood how someone could want to box so badly that they actually get to the olympics but then just give up almost completely afterwards. The same goes for DeGale who has not had the career he should of had so far although he has more time to rectify this than Dirrell has

another underachiever no one has mentioned yet is Andy Lee who is possibly the most inconsistent fighter to ever live
