Muhammad Ali at his best vs. Wladimir Klitschko at his best, who wins?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Canibus81, Apr 3, 2012.

  1. The thing about it is that it just isn't necessary for Wlad to throw multiple combinations. It's redundant as far as he's concerned. He's content wearing opponents down by throwing the basic 1-2 combo, and clinching. It has been very effective thus far and I don't see the need for him to change anything especially since no
one is taking him out of his comfort zone and forcing him to adjust. I'm pretty sure he more than capable of throwing a wide variety of shots if he chose to.

As for Ali's footwork. It might provide some headaches for Klit, but at the end of the day Ali operates on a style that I can't see him using to successfully defeat
Klitschko. I would favor Klitschko in an outside war any day of the week just based on physical characteristics alone. That's not mentioning Wlad's masterful skills.
Should Ali try to take this on the inside he's getting tied up instantly. Povetkin who is bigger and physically stronger than Ali was manhandled like a child, by the
the whim of Klitschko's physical arsenal.

You sound like some fool who only saw the Foreman fight. You have no idea how much of an intelligent boxer Ali was. One of the most smartest boxers of all time.

Wlad only throws straight punches which are easier for Ali to slip and counter than any other thrown punch.

He just paws with the jab and can't double or tripple up on it. Wlad jab is the most overrated punch in boxing. Theres power behind it but what good is that if you can't land it.
Haye completly took Wlads jab out of the picture and Povetkin got past it over and over. Even Mormeck got past it.

Ali and Dundee would have the easiest task of their careers creating a gamplan to beat a one dimensional , limited straight ahead puncher who had no punch reststance and poor stamina.

Prime Byrd was battered to pieces in 5 by Ibeabuchi. He would not see past the first round against prime Tyson yet he takes the gigantor Wlad the full 12 rounds and Wlad could only stop him years later when he was shot to absoulte ****:patsch:rofl

Are you taliking about Byrd and Haye?

Byrd stood in front of Wlad with no foot movement. None. He just stood there catching shots on the gloves waiting to be knocked out.

Haye fought with his back to the ropes and used upper body movevmet to connfuse Wlad.
None of them had the foot speed or footwork of Ali.

Ali held his own inside against Foreman. A man of raw brute strenght and power.
Part timer Sanders out muscled Wlad. Sanders threw him off him like a wet blanket when he got clinched. So did Sam Peter.
Wlads physical strength is nowhere near as strong as his punching power.

    JuggernautBoxer,

That's nonsense in my opinion. Why would he clinch, if he'd got other strings to his bow? Where are the hooks, the double hooks, the body shots and the uppercuts etc? This is the HW weight champion of the World we're talking about.

Ali's footwork would have been a nightmare for Wlad. All that movement. How would Wlad have set himself? What are these masterful skills of Wlad? You've just agreed that he's content to use two main punches and then clinch. But is he just content to do that? You can't just assume that he's got this fantastic repertoire of shots at his disposal, but he chooses to keep them locked away. That's ridiculous. He's now had 64 fights. It's a gross exaggeration. He hasn't got masterful skills. If he had, we would no doubt have seen them by now. He wouldn't have been able to have clinched a 25 year old Ali, up on his toes, darting in and out of range. Ali wouldn't have fought Wlad like Potvetkin. There's no way he'd have fought him on the inside. He'd have been in and out.

    Nonsense.

It isn't necessary because he is fighting guys straight out of flea bottom. You best believe he will have to up the ante against Ali and then some.
You're delusional if you think Ali is just going to be there in front of him eating basic 1-2s.
Liston had one of the most fearsome jabs in history and applied more pressure than Wlad. He was taken apart both times.

The reason he doesn't throw in volume is because he hasn't the stamina. He has shown time and time again after Brewster that he won't comit to a series of shots for fear he will gas out. Not a good weakness to have when fighting one of the greatest boxers of all time.

  8. I think you're adept to undermine Klitschko's own footwork. Another highly underrated aspect of his game which most people fail to take notice on.
As for Ali's footwork. I think Wlad's jab has enough sufficiency behind it that he can keep Ali at bay from darting in and out as you like to say he would.

I'm not sure if you're joking?

Haye has fast hands, but doesn't throw fast combinations like Ali did.

His footwork was nowhere near as fast as Ali's.

I wouldn't say Haye was slick either. He used to do a poor impersonation of Roy Jones and get tagged a lot.

Nobody is doubting Wlad's power. But would he have gotten the opportunity?

Ali was clipped when he was Cassius Clay, when he was young. We're debating a 25 year old Ali on his best day.

    Ali on points.

Vlad would NEED to be on the offensive to win. He simply is NOT offensive minded enough to beat Ali. I couldnt see Vlad stopping him, the Ali was freakishly tough and also hits harder than he is credited for.

Speed is the other major factor in this.

As above Ali could possibly stop him on cuts.

Seriously. This is the right analysis.

How could Wlad's jab have kept Ali from dancing in and out of range?

What are the masterful skills that Wlad possesses?

You're assuming he's got them, but we've never seen them in 64 fights.

Ali would school him. The Klits are just big. Without that size advantage they are less than mediocre boxers. No question. Ali easily.
