The Only Man Who Has A Good Chance At Beating Floyd Is Erislandy Lara

Unless Lara becomes a huge draw, no. Lara most likely won't become a huge draw because:

1. Fighting style is boring for Casuals
2. Can't speak english (no appeal to americans)
3. Speaks spanish but cuban (No appeal to mexicans)

Cubans don't buy PPV so I don't think this fight will ever happen.

 

Lara ran around like a *** for 12 rounds vs Vanes. He got dropped by the very crude Angulo twice. You telling me a guy as fast and smart as Floyd will not find a way to win?

 

1) I'd actually argue that Lara, at this point in time, is faster

2) Styles make fights. You can't beat a student of the Cuban school of boxing with boxing... it'll take a relentless pressure fighter to beat Lara (GGG, Angulo, prime Margocheato could beat Lara, and MAYBE Cotto). This being said, Lara is a stylistic nightmare for an older Floyd.

 

Lara is the only fighter 154 and down that has a real shot at beating PBF. It would be his hardest fight and I would love to see it.

 

Would be a strategic chessmatch which you instantly say "boring" but it wouldnt be because it would be the first time in years that you wouldnt be sure if Floyd won the round. If Lara can make 147 he would be wise to start dusting the "top fighters" in that division... IF he can't get Canelo of course.

 

Floyd would just say he dont fight a 154 only 147. Maybe catchweight

 

Bad stylistic matchup as Lara uses distance, footwork, plus he is is longer, bigger. Basically its a mismatch which favors Lara.

 

They said the same thing about Canelo.

 

Hatton struggled with him in sparring while training with the mayweathers... Im sure they know laras got nothing on floyd

Who? Very few gave Canelo a chance other than one fanbase. Everyone knew he had stamina issues, slow feet and leaky defense.

Lara has been fighting some tough fights at 154. Canelo barely fought anyone other than Trout, and I thought it was an even fight.

 

Floyd is one of the only fighters who refuses to fight anyone who has more than a 1 inch reach advantage on him. Lara has a 3-inch reach advantage, so the fight is unlikely to happen.

Lara, Trout, Pacquiao, and Bradley are the fighters with the best chance of beating Floyd, which is why it wouldn't surprise me if he retires without fighting any of them.
