Good idea? :think I think so.

Back in the day, Forbes was sought after by prospective Floyd Mayweather opponents despite & in fact due to his close familiarity & longtime kinship with the family (training & sparring with Floyd, and being coached by all three of the famed brother trainers - Jeff, Roger, and Floyd Sr. - at various times in his career) and having a style that more closely approximates Floyd's than most other active boxers with a modicum of the slickness and speed that allow Floyd so much success within that style.

(Broner, of course, has repeatedly made it known - as though confirmation were needed - that he strives to emulate Mayweather in the ring and out. )

That was a while ago, but Forbes is actually in decent form these days in spite of having run into a long rocky patch including some bad luck and some nights where he didn't seem to have the hunger anymore. Most recently he turned back the clock and brought his A game to push Johan Perez to an incredibly difficult MD in January of this year, which many consider a robbery. Two weeks ago Perez dealt 48-0-1 Paul Spadafora his first professional loss...

Obviously the old ex-champ is operating at greatly reduced levels of athleticism compared with his own prime and to be sure with Broner himself. Still, IMO this is as well as Maidana and trainer Robert Garcia could hope to find in terms of direct 'simulation' prep in a chief spar mate.

Forbes on a few topics, including his similarities to Broner:

He would have been better getting someone like Hank Lundy.

    A bum. I see.

So, are you a nervous Broner fan-boy hoping to convince yourself along with me and dispel yiur nagging doubts by exaggerating in Broner's favor...or are you a blindly determined irrational hater of Broner hoping to preemptively deny him any credit should he win easily?

Either/or. Nobody outside those contradictorily opposed groups (united by the same means to different ends) would be uttering nonsense like "Maidana is a bum".

    Strange:think
I like Broner as a boxer and have enough respect to not call him a bum as he is a pro:tong

    Maybe you are a bum:huh

I'm just telling the truth, Maidana is a average gatekeeper
I think Broner is good, nothing special, I'm not a fan of his

How many world title fights has Maidana won? answer that

I feel you. So poll option #2 for you? :think

I can see the rationale, and Lundy would give him more of a rough impression of Broner's hand speed, size, and physical strength...but for me this is a case where like styles between foe and gym partner do offer some usefulness. (they don't always)

Not to say that Forbes and Broner are incredibly similar; they aren't - but closer than either isto Lundy with his switch-hitting jump-in-and-out box-and-brawl approach.

Forbes will give Maidana a pureerstrain of the shoulder-rolling, pot-shot-counter-popping style than anyone in the weight range except PBF himself...among those experienced in world class level of competition anyhow.

...and given what he showed versus Johan (though granted it has been nearly a full year) he can still put in work and is well conditioned for his age so Maidana will be getting quality from him even without any tactical advantage Garcia can extrapolate.

I chose two only because I think Ludy would have been better. Not that Forbes is a bad choice. Forbes will give Maidana good work and he's very professional.

    Forbes on Maidana:

"He is strong...and throws a lot of punches. (The Broner fight) should be interesting..."

Forbes is more crafty than Broner, but lacks pop. Maidana could probably walk through him. I don't think he'll able to do that against Broner.

Forbes' career fell apart after the Contender. I don't know why he kept fighting at higher weights.
