    Macklin Wins

Matthew Macklin returned to winning ways and gave himself renewed hope of a fourth world title shot after a points victory over Lamar Russ in their middleweight encounter last night.
The Birmingham-born Irishman recorded a unanimous points victory over the American in Atlantic City with the three judges scoring the fight 96-94, 98-92 and 97-93 in Macklin's favour.
Mackin had lost three of his last four fights including world title challenges to Alex Sturm and the hard-hitting Gennady Golovkin as well as the premier middleweight Sergio Martinez.
His sole victory in the last three years was a one-round blowout of Joachim Alcine last September.
But despite not being at his best, he was always in control against Russ who was a late replacement for the injured Willie Nelson.

    :good

He wants Burns next but hes lined up to fight Crawford now, so maybe he'll go after Crolla

Next fight is in the stadium end of feb/march. I'd like to see him go european title route next. Think he was sparring european champion in Italy not so long ago but could have been at different weight class???

Lee calling out Macklin, not a good sign when he is calling him out, seems di bella might be trying to get Sturm V Macklin, would be better if it was Lee,we are looking for a clash between our middleweights for a number of years, with Duddy finished i would say if it doesn't happen next year it never will.

Agree Dutchie but I don't see Sturm giving Macklin a rematch over Geale or Soliman.
surely Sturm will want to avenge the Soliman fight because its the easiest of the rematch options available. Sturm might also fancy his chances against Geale and see him more favourably over Macklin. So if Sturm does not give Macklin the next fight I see Lee as being in the number 1 position. And I think Lou DiBella knows that but is just hoping for the Sturm offer first off.

I actually hope he does get the Sturm fight as it'll give Lee a chance to fight a good warm up (he hasn't really fought a top fighter since the loss to Chavez) and then if Macklin get's the belt it'll make it more interesting.

I just saw on twitter that Andy called him out. Macklin replied basically saying if the Sturm fight falls through Andy is next. Let's hope Sturm fights Soliman rematch first!!
