Boy, that wouldn't surprise me. This is starting to remind me of Lewis in 2003-04 holding the WBC title hostage. WBC sure likes its belt around Vitali's waist.

Vitali beat Kirk Johnson on the 6th of December 2003 making him the mandatory to Lewis's WBC Title. Lewis retired in February 2004 after the WBC gave him the ultimatum "fight your mandatory or we'll strip you."

On the 27th of April of this year Stiverne beat Arreola to became mandatory. It is now December and Vitali has been permitted to put off accepting the mandatory fight three time, pulled out claiming to be injured and still been permitted to keep the title, announced a date when he would make a decision only to blow it off anyway and get an extension, and all the while the WBC have bent over backwards to accommodate him.

Between his last fight and his retirement Lewis spent about 8 month inactive as WBC champion and only for about 3 of those month did he have a mandatory.

Since his last fight Vitali has spent about 16 month inactive as WBC champion and for about 9 of those months has had a mandatory.

The situation is nothing like it was with Lewis, it is far worse.
