Very funny-toney has been calling out Jones like forever, as a lightheavy, cruiser, heavyweight. That is the fight JT always wanted

Hyrnov lined up the French fighter last week, before there was any talk of a Toney fight.

Why didn't he call for it after their first fight?

There was talk of fighting Roy again, if he beat Griffin.

Then after Jirov, he spoke of Roy, but Roy was at HW, looking for silly money.

I'm not disputing that Toney hasn't called for it.

But how serious was he, and again, why didn't he mention it in 94?

Why would Roy in 2003, have wanted the fight?

He'd got nothing to prove. He'd beaten him at 26, so he didn't need to fight him at 35.

I've heard numerous interviews with James over the years, and in each one, he was in a different mood.

I've heard interviews where he said that he'd lost fair and square, and that Roy was a great fighter, and I've heard rants where he said that Roy was a ***** who ran from him all night.

James has got the biggest mouth in boxing.

I don't truly believe that he wanted Roy again, when Roy was in his prime.

Back in 95' Toney could not make super middle anymore. He wanted jones at lightheavy. However, Toney then lost to Griffin and the fight was off.

In 96', HBO wanted to make Jones-Toney II. Toney took a tune up against Griffin II, then was robbed by the judges , the fight was off again.

However, from 99-to present , Jones could have fought Toney anytime. However, he chose to fight the Telescos and Halls of rthe world. In particular after 2003, Toney and Jones were about the same weight and Toney was a big name again

This is a fight that really interests me, I hope it will happen!

    I appreciate what you're saying.

But again, I find it odd that the biggest mouth in boxing, didn't ask for a rematch directly after the fight. It seems he kept quiet, and then took his frustrations out on Jackie Kallen.

Again, Roy's never needed to chase down the rematch. Why would he have?

He wasn't just content to fight the Telesco's of the world. If that was true, he wouldn't have fought Ruiz or Tarver. Also, Kerry Davis of HBO tried to make the Dariusz M fight, and Hopkins priced himself out of an earlier rematch. So he did want big fights.

After he'd beaten Ruiz in 2003, he wanted a Tyson fight for silly money. When that couldn't be made, he fought Tarver to make history. He became only the second fighter in the sport to have won titles at MW, LHW, HW, who then dropped back down to reclaim the LHW titles. There was then further talk of fighting Tyson, but he ended up getting knocked out by Tarver and Johnson, and Tyson was also knocked out, by Danny Williams. At that point, Roy was considered finished at top level.

So Roy was never really interested in a Toney rematch.

But that doesn't mean he was a p*ssy etc, who feared him.

    That's nonsense.

    Toney's new FB status:

Well it’s happened again…. after our teams had a verbal agreement Roy Jones Jr has decided to run away from me like a punk ass p*ssy and fight some French pastry guy that nobody even knows. It’s amazing how this so called “living legend” doesn’t have the balls to man up and fight me again. I miss the days when the biggest fighters and biggest names fought each other, now most of them run away whenever a real challenge presents itself. I hate to disappoint all those who supported me in a rematch with Roy, but you can thank Roy “Got No Balls” Jones for that. No matter what I’ve said in the past about Roy I’ve always respected him as a fighter, but as a man I can’t respect him cause truthfully he’s 100% *****. All I can do at this point is keep training hard with the hopes that somebody out there is man enough to fight me. To all my real fans I love you all and will keep going hard for you, trust and believe that!

    Sincerely Yours,
A REAL Living Legend, James “Lights Out” Toney

Well, it's official then, Roy has ducked James Toney once again...

I have always had respect for Roy Jones. He's an first ballot ATG an he has had a great career, despite the losses late in his career and names like Telesco and so on on his record. At the end of the day, he has nearly faced everybody available, even when he faced some a bit too late (like Calzaghe). And I believe that Roy, in his prime and on his night, would have beaten everybody any era. He just was that good.

Roy also beat Toney fair and square when both men were in their primes. It wasn't Roys fault that Toney was so deshydrated when they met. And I remember that Roy had problems making the weight himself.

But this would have been the perfect opportunity for both men to end their careers and ride of into the sunset with one last nice paycheck (and maybe win on their resume). This fight would have made perfectly sense now, and Roy 'chickening out' (we don't know the background story here - well, maybe Blade does) now and fighting a nobody from France instead is BS. I can understand people losing respect for Roy over that. There is no reason why Toneys statements shouldn't be true, he seems to be very emotional over that.

BTW, as a huge Toney fan, I think Roy would have won this, as I think he has a little, just a little, more left in the tank than Toney. At the end of the day, both men are shot and should have retired years ago. Therefore, again, this would have been the perfect opportunity for both men to end their careers and ride of into the sunset with one last nice paycheck (and maybe win on their resume).

Before everybody gets carried away, Roy agreed to fight Bobby Gunn last month. He was then was presented with a better opportunity to fight in Russia. He's loved in Russia and is treated like a superstar. He went over there last year and performed rap concerts for them.

The French guy who's he's fighting, was agreed more than a week ago, with the stipulation, that it's winner take all.

Toney's name was only mentioned 4 days ago.

So he'd already planned to fight the French guy first.

But Roy hasn't fought for 18 months, since he won a very controversial points decision, over a 17 fight novice at CW, who was actually at LHW.

Toney looks in better shape, and has fought recently.

So you can't blame Roy for sticking to his original opponent.

People are only looking from Toney's perspective.

Also, the question everybody should be asking, is why does Toney want Roy anyway?

Because a few years ago, he came out and said that Roy was completely finished and needed to retire.

All you fools, calling Roy a p***y, need to remember two things.

    1. He moved up to 168 when Toney was undefeated at 26, and he schooled him.

    2. After that, he never needed to take the rematch.

We're defending Toneys corner here and you're defending Roys, that's a good thing and that's why we writing here on ESB.

However, I'm a fan of Roys too - look my previous post.

Again, this would have been the perfect opportunity for both men to end their careers and ride of into the sunset with one last nice paycheck (and maybe win on their resume). This fight would have made perfectly sense now, and a much better opportunity for Roy than fighting a NOBODY from France in a fight that will lead nowhere.
I mean, what are Roys options?? If he loses to this frenchie, his career will be over and he won't even get any cash. And if he wins this, then what? Bobby Gunn next? Who even cares? This fight is pointless. And every fight is a fight too many at this point for Roy, so if he fights it should at least be a meaningful fight..

I agree with everything that you've said.

If both fighters had sat down 2-3 months ago, and it was all official etc, then that would have been fine.

But again, Toney's name was only mentioned on Monday. I'm glad it hasn't gone through, and I've got serious doubts that Roy will fight anybody next Saturday.

I don't even know if he's had any sort of a camp, and there's still been nothing official to confirm that he's fighting the French guy.

But Roy would have needed a proper 6 week plus camp, to have fought even the latest version of Toney, in my opinion.
