Many many years ago I predicted that if/when the Cuban boxers were allowed to compete freely as pros that they would also repeat their victories in professional boxing and be among the best.

So far, even with the majority of Cuban boxers still inside Cuba they have managed to produced great results. Let's take a closer look...

    4 World Champs, 1 Interim

Yoan Pablo Hernandez- IBF-Ring magazine Cruiserweight World Champion.
Guillermo Rigondeaux- WBA-WBO Bantamweight Champion, P4P top 5.
Erislandy Lara- WBA light middleweight Champion
    Richard Abril- WBA lightweight Champion

    Yuriorkis Gamboa- Interim lightweight Champion

Just recently, the Cuban Team " los Domadóres " also won first place at the semi-pro International competition as well.

Right now it surely looks like the two top Hispanic Countries in pro Boxing are Mexico and Cuba. Puerto Rico has badly dropped out of contention and the other Latin Countries Venezuela and Dominican are nowhere near these top dogs to be mentioned.

With 2-3 more Cubans waiting in line to fight for World Titles, ( Rances Barthelemy, Yoandris Salinas and Luis Ortiz ) they could easily grab a couple of more Titles.

My new prediction: If the Cubans keep defecting and coming to America, the boxing World will finally see what those Cuban blacks can do. If Cuba is allowed to participate in pro boxing like everybody else the Cubans will have multiple World Champions in EVERY weight class and 3-5 Champions in the top 10 P4P rankings.

Sounds too crazy? just give it time ... It's just a matter of time till Cuba totally let's it's athletes compete as professionals.

    Can't wait for that!

    :good

I enjoy the Cuban style of boxing and don't find it boring. Cubans are now technically allowed to fight pro (WSOB). Its nice to see fighters who try to perfect their craft rather than some tool that can take a punch or punch hard. Boxing needs the variety.

yes, the craft of boxing could do without those tools who can give and take a hard punch. it needs more dancing jabbers so as to marvel 1% of the population.

And yet after all of that, Cuban fighters are not box office attractions. Yes fighters like lara/rigo are top very good fighters but their styles and personality are freaking boring which many will continue to say boxing is dying because it's getting boring. Yes boxing is hit and not get hit but boxing is also about the money getting the fans to watch you fights and make sure it'll likely sold out. <<This is why Puerto rican are still better then Cubans in better attraction, better draw. And Puerto Ricans most of then fighters are not boring to watch. :)

congrats. in an era where there are 17 divisions and approx 8 world title belts per division
(when you consider interim, regulars, super ect just from the WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO)

so out of 136 belts out there, the Cubans have 5 of them. ummm WOW...congrats!

Just saying "reported" does nothing (unless a mod happens to see it like I did here).

You need to actually use the report post button.

Yeah, Mike Perez and Odlanier Solis just bore us to death don't they????

Perez may have just been in a FOTY with Mago, and Solis is as good a boxer puncher as any HW out there.

Lara may be a defensive whiz, but he's got enough pop to stop a guy with an iron chin like Angulo, and Rigo made the #3 p4p Donaire look like a bum, while completely destroying the guys confidence and possibly ruining his career.

Gamboa needs to get busy fighting and quit trying to avoid fights he thinks he too good for, as does Ortiz. But both those guys can make for exciting fights, especially for purists. :think

Solis is a lazy Cuban that refuse to be in shape. Both Lara/Rigo are just boring not just of the amateur styles of theirs but their personality. Gamboa has indeed avoid fights that he thinks he's too good at. Cuban fighters in reality will never ever be top box office attraction draw stars because of their styles and personality.
