it means they are not the Elite boxers they were made out to be by the Media, this is no good, we get to see Old Elite boxers fight for more years(JMM, Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Sergio) there is nobody left to pick the Torch.. Tim is an Elite boxer but not the Torch bearer of Boxing, so I must ask Who the Hell is going to be the Torch bearer of Boxing?(from 140 to 160) Thurman? Hell no, he is a good boxer, not elite level GGG? he is good but not elite. Ward? he is elite but he cant attract a fly to **** so Who is the Torch Bearer, I cant see him
Both are highly talented, but they were given too much too early. GB made them into huge attractions too early and were forced to protect them rather than properly develop them. That's a fate we see over and over when promoters get lazy and want the money now. Happened with Vargas, David Reid, more recently with Lemieux, Chavez Jr. Fighters need years and good fights to develop into stars.
I guess he could become full elite if he steps up... but we will see... but he cant become the Torch Bearer...
Why not? He's still young and has ample time to develop/hone his craft further. He lost to Floyd sure, but who says he won't get significantly better as time goes and beat everyone else? I think he has good chance of doing that and stapling his place as the #1 fighter when Floyd/Pac gives it up.
1 loss doesn't mean end of the world... come on. That attitude is bad for boxing, the way we toss any one who loses a fight under the bus is bad for boxing. Canelo and Broner, like any hyped fighter is mostly rated on potential to get better.. and you never know if they will step up when that fight comes, or they won't. Canelo lost to the P4P best in the world. No shame in that. Broner lost to a bigger guy, in a division he had to business being in, against a solid tough fighter who's ONLY lost to some of the best fighters out there. It's what happens after these losses that matter.
He would not lose to Cotto... and Sergio is faded.. so it's not a given at all... Sergio was almost KO'd by Jr.. who isn't close to Canelo level.
Canelo just got beaten by a featherfisted grandpa. He needs to step up his game if he wants to face the best.
Well, Floyd will fight for a while yet and it is possible that he will lose as he gets older and whoever beats him will have grabbed hold of that torch.
Floyd will remain unbeaten well over his 40th birth day... from 140 to 154 nothing can touch him, 160 he can feed off faded Sergio, but he is beatable(not saying they will beat him, but odds are they do) by guys that outweight him by 25+ pounds
While Floyd,Ward and Rigondeaux are the least beatable fighters right now imo, they're not necessarily unbeatable, history shows anyone can be beat. This is boxing, after all.
Please don't mention broner in the same sentence as canelo ever again. Canelo is levels above broner.
This. Not being able to beat Floyd doesn't mean you are not elite. Floyd will dominante hard for many more years yet. Call me crazy but I think floyd would beat someone like JCC jr. You can't beat what you can't hit. Floyd is in the rare position now where he has the ability and comp available to crack the top 10 p4p ATG list. If GGG dominantes his division and floyd can beat him then that would push his all time ranking up pretty damn high. If he is even competitive with the guys at 160-175 he deserves to be in the top 10.
