-And I showed you that MW Jermain Taylor has larger "Tale of the Tape" muscle measurements than Holyfeld to illustrate how worthless that is as a gauge of bulk and you respond with pish. So right back at you. -No, I posted the entire fight, and I outlined what the video demonstrated and why it leads me to the conclusion that Bowe could struggle against the great smaller swarmers. There is no actual footage of a Marciano/Bowe fight so we have to make do with what we have, and its odd I have to explain that. Analogies are never going to be perfect. I could understand if I was showing footage of Golota and laying down how Maricano could duplicate his strategy. But a 205 lb Holyfield pushing a forward leaning Bowe around and chopping into him with body punches, short hooks, and lunging right hands is a fair analogy in my book. -He got outworked by Bowe, who out threw him by over 200 punches. You can't beat a bigger man that way. He got tired laying hayemakers into Bowe trying for a early knockout, Evander had great stamina but he always fought in spurts, regardless of the size of his opponent. yet I've never seen Rocky have to take a rest after an offensive burst, he just kept coming, especially if he knew he had his man hurt. I wouldn't bank on a strategy of outworking Marciano or hoping for his stamina to run out as Evander's did, regardless of how much Bowe weighs. -Some of them seem exaggerated, in this one you can see both their feet. Ali is leaning a little and Rocky is sporting a hunchback in middle agd but the height difference is obviously not as startling as the glove touch photo where Ali looks like he's 7 foot or something. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_LS0KVhlhM Maricano didn't seem physically incapable of punching the 6'4" Vingo, who like Bowe appeared to give up his height and brawl down to the level of his opponent. Not saying Vingo=Bowe, just making a point about the height argument.
Just untrue. He was 6' 5" and in the best snap of his life for Holyfield 1 and was 235 or so. He was in terrific, never to be repeated condition for that fight ..
Carmine Vingo was in his 18th fight. If he weighed above 192lbs in a fight I haven't seen it. You make as many excuses as you want, Rocky would be midget against Bowe, and everyone else knows it. There was a 4.5" difference of height between Ali and Marciano ,there would be a 6.5" difference between Bowe and Rocky. Spin it how you want.Thems the facts.
As a guy who has seen Bowe at his best, live and in person, I can not express the degree to which this is deluded and utter shite.
If Bowe can't keep it on the outside for 12 or 15 , the wee son of Providence chops him up. Bowe had good punch variety on the inside though so its a tough one.
It is remarkable how incorect Tale of the Tape can be. Unlike height & weight before a fight, some of the numbers are unconfirmed-absurd. Leon Spinks is listed in 1 site wiith numerous HWs as having bigger biceps than Foreman. Check this one out for the Bruno-McCall bout: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/mccall-will-test-brunos-survival-instinct-1599167.html See one guy has a 1" larger wrist than ankle-he would be almost a freak of nature for this to be true. And both of these large men are listed as having basically minisule calves, 9" & 10". These measurements are plausible for a very short, small-boned man a guy fighting at roughly mininum or staw weight.
I was looking over Tommy Hurricane Jackson today - impressive 80" reach listed on Boxrec and referenced in the Patterson fight film, but a tale of the tape reported him at 78". He was rangey, I think, but it makes you wonder.
-Spin it how you want, Marciano would be able to land the same punches I pointed out that Holyfield did. -It has nothing to do with Evander being 6'1"-6'2" or whatever he claimed, has 16 inch biceps..etc. It's because Bowe always gave up his height advantage and was there to be hit, simple as that. -And the point being is that Vingo had 5 inches on Maricano, and if you don't use it and fight tall, you are going to get hit.
CORRECT. Over the internet you will find all kinds of cranks, weirdo's, scumbag Tyson defenders, and general lowlifes, but you will NEVER, EVER find anyone stupid enough to claim that James Toney's mentor regarding the delights of junk food ( BIG DADDY BOWE ) weighed as little as 210 lbs as a pro boxer.
Anything is possible as a skinny kid, but Bowe at 6' 5" was unlikely to be 210 even as an adult. Though your hatred of Tyson is pathological Foxy 01. Tyson (or anyone) should be defended, re: boxing or personally, when the critiques are wrong or overstated. While Tyson has-& admits-he has done much wrong & to atone for, projecting all negativity & disowned emotion, Fear * Loathing onto a hated "other", group or an individual, is wrong & unhealthy.
Bowe made 216 as a pro. In other weight classes boxers are able to maintain the weight of that class for a career, heavyweights dont have to. Of course Bowe was big and 216 was very low for him, but if he had to he could have stayed there. 210-216 in a fantasy fight, why not? I heard Bowe in an interview talking about how to bulk up, and he knew all about it. How to put weight on and still train. "Eat before bedtime to hold onto your weight" was an expression I remember him saying. Hold on to it. I have no doubt Bowe struggled with food and training but it appeared to me that he wanted to come in heavy. Was 216 a weight he would come in at without trying to come in heavy or put weight on or was it that he was a "growing boy"? Perhaps a bit of both. 240 was way too much. It could have hindered him against a smaller a smaller man.
Bowe has a 46" chest 50" expanded 17" biceps, and 26.5"thighs, he is 6'5".No way he makes 210, and stays strong.
I used SI's measurements,I've found them generally reliable. To describe Holyfield as slender is silly.
