Can the average joe become a champion?

Do you have to have a relatively high IQ to become one?

Can you get away with having low IQ by having a great trainer and superior athletic abilities?

Or does high IQ not correlate at all in the sweet "science"?

    Thoughts..

There's probably little correlation between in-ring IQ and day to day intelligence.

Sheer athleticism can win a belt depending on the degree of athleticism and/or the matchups to get said belt. Andre Berto is a good example of this in my opinion. However, for the most part high ring IQ is needed to keep said belt, and it certainly helps in winning one too. A lesser athlete can similar get a belt given the right situation.

Ali was known to have a very low IQ (83 I believe), while his ring IQ was off the charts.
Just look at many other big names nowadays and from the past and it's clear you don't need a high IQ to succeed in this sport.

An average fighter can become champ in a weak era, so high IQ is not necessary. To become a great on the other hand, you need a very good, if not extremely high boxing IQ.

Ali wasn't eligible for draft in the US army for nam at first because of his low IQ.

Obviously ring IQ is much more important

Even though I don't think he's that dumb, a lot of people think Darren Barker isn't the brightest and he became a champ.

Average iq with speed and great heart can bring you above. High iq with slow speed and no heart goes nowhere so it should be a good combination of everything.
