Do you think Oliver McCall was a good boxer and good Heavyweight champion? See I just got back into boxing last year, so I want to know your opinion on this. I know he threw his second fight with Lewis and cried. He had cocaine problems. Why do or don't you think he was good?
He was a good fighter who caught lightening in a bottle for one fight. Certainly not HOF worthy. And McCall didn't throw the second Lewis fight, he broke down from the frustration of knowing he wasnt in the ring from the same Lewis as the first go round. If this was brought on because of his addictions he has no one to blame but himself.
He was a middle-of-the-road contender with a granite chin who had one night where he beat a great fighter. Not HOF material. Similar to Rahman, although Rahman has more notable wins against contenders and fringe contenders than McCall. And he was a mental wreck who should not have been in the ring in the Lewis rematch. He didn't throw it, he had a breakdown.
Hell no. McCall was a decent fringe contender who was able to take advantage of Lewis' questionable punch resistance to win a title belt. That's it. Not even close to HoF material.
I don't think too much of a 45 year old Holmes. Maybe Corrie Sanders or David Tua (he won that rematch)? Maybe you're right. Whatever the case, neither him nor McCall are HOFers.
His stats are borderline. But nobody (1) likes him, (2) takes him seriously, (3) rates his skills fairly, so he isn't gonna get in. He clearly had a better late 80s and 90s than Foreman, but nobody wants to believe it.
No. He is slightly underrated, but certaintly not HOF worthy. A tough fighter with an all time chin-he had a Crack addiction that was well known, and should never been allowed in the ring for the rematch with Lewis. He was fighting with Christmas trees shortly before the rematch lol. The Holmes win actually hurts his case as he struggled mightily in that fight which was supposed to be a cherry pick against an ancient Larry. He did knock Lewis out (with his eyes closed) he also took out a young Maskaev and Bruce Seldon.
I didn't know that, I clicked this topic to find out who Oliver McCall was and I learned something in his post
He's slightly underrated his combination of durability and one shot power always made him dangerous but he lost all his big fights except the first Lewis fight. He clearly never achieved enough to be inducted into the hall of fame.
of course hes hof, he stopped tysons reign of terror. its a backdoor job, but hes hof. hes going to be 'famous' for that whatever anyone thinks, and theres not one jot anyone can do about it to change that. is he HOF material? well no, he wouldn't get in any other way.
Not a HOFer but and ATG chin IMO . The man could take a shot at heavyweight better than anyone I've ever seen
For.... what, excactly? Now, every boxer is hall of fame material? He lost his fukin second pro match, he lost 13 times overall, and he never achieved anything. Why in the entire hell a fighter like that should be hall of fame material? Basically everyone can be HOF?
Hell no he doesn't belong in the HOF, but he has a 50-50 shot to get in only because the HOF has become so cheap and watered down. Hell they let Gatti in, and Sylvester Stallone , a guy who never fought a pro round in his life. Maybe they should let Joe Hipp in, and Butterbean as well.
