I think most conspiracy theories are ******ed, but this is beyond dumb.

Giving someone a PILL halfway through a fight is gonna make a difference? That's probably why they give pills to emergency patients and not IV's. :patsch

Because they're Broner fans, which means that they're morons who barely graduated high school. They are really reaching and can't cope with reality of AB getting his Ass Beat.

Thought of this upon first hearing the whole thing.

What pill digests in 30 seconds?

To be honest with you, the "conspiracy theorists" on this issue would have been much better served to argue it was a cream.

Liquifying a pill and putting it in a water bottle would be a little more sneaky than putting a PILL in your fighters mouth with 15 cameras on you. Not to mention would act ~10x faster.

I really feel for anyone who believed this :(

Broner appears to be the one who is putting out the lies. A pill can't do anything for you within such a short amount of time. Broner hit Maidana clearly after the bell, so the doctor looked at Maidana, then Maidana was attended to after the doctor. Broner's best punch of the fight was the punch after the bell. Cole should be investigated.......

The 12th round was 3 minutes long................think about it........

I don't believe anything happened in the Maidana corner at all.

But just to answer your question, doesn't it depend on the chemical?

I mean a cyanide pill works within seconds doesn't it? Not sure about any drugs a boxer would be taking.

You could theoretically rack some kind of powder in between first and second and spend the rest of the fight post round five going bananas

Not that there was anything in that napkin

All depends on what the pill is. A powder simply compressed into pill form or put in a capsule could act quickly, just like nicotine in chewing tobacco enters the bloodstream directly through mucous membrane. Most "pills" that need "digested" are intentionally designed that way to release at a certain rate, or protect the lining of the stomach.

However a banned substance would cause a failed post fight **** test.

I doubt it was a free powder, there was no residue. A scent would likely be detected by inspector. He wiped around his eye with it, which rules out a great many things.

In short, its no more likely that Ariza slipped him anything than it is that any fighter in any fight gets slipped something. Theoretically possible, but not likely. The same guy that put on an acting show to go for a DQ just trying to rob Maidana of a proper victory.

The only thing I can think of that is even slightly plausible if something was slipped, and I dont think it was - is a small tablet of glucose/potassium which along with some water would be the equivalent of drinking a gatorade and might very slightly take the edge off fatigue. Which is legal in some jurisdictions, but not others.

food takes about 15-20 minutes to pass out of the stomach into the duodenum yes, but a powdered pill will largely be absorbed in the stomach, and needs little mechanical breakdown - think an dispersible headache pill, your headache begins to ebb within 5 minutes (though that might be placebo effect in part).

still sounds like an excuse by Broner, his problem is that hes too young to mentally separate his 'act' from reality, began believing what he was saying (a bit like cochy young Ali getting floored twice when messing around youngster, and the oppositie to the way Money Mayweather is today).

even if you are rihgt, it doesnt justify cheating. although i personally beelive madiana didnt cheat, if he did he needs to be penalized accordingly regardless if it was a futile attempt

Yeah, under half a minute, but those are extremely potent toxins. (ie they're never supposed to be in the body to begin with so their 'quickness and effectiveness' is relative with the goal being instant death...) No medicine works that fast.

It's always quicker and easier to destroy than to heal. :good

the whole "pill" excuse is incredible. I've seen some pretty desperate things coming from fans on the losing end of things but this is by far the most pathetic. To think that in a fight that they were winning, HANDILY...would do something illegal in front of 1.3 million viewers, ring side physicians and a slew of spectators is some real desperate housewives type ****. A lot of skirts running round after this one.:-(

Right, which are specifically engineered to be fast-acting - yet there weren't even five minutes left in the fight.
