Uh not even close. Maybe FOTY among events of its magnitude in terms of media attention, but not even remotely close to actual FOTY. Maybe top fifty. 2013 was ****ing great.
I one of the things I find most interesting is what Maidana said he gameplan was to be. He basically said he try to get to Broner with whatever he could. That's basically the same thing Cotto said was the gameplan was for Floyd, whether it was body or head that they felt was open, they would strike for that. Broner's attempted emulation of Floyd was good/solid, but without the experience and defense being on par with Floyd, it made it succesful for Maidana.
"Broner was up on my card at the halfway point! :nut This was shaping up to be like Pacquiao vs. Marquez I with fewer KDs in the 1st..." This place... :-( Undiluted reality visits here less regularly than daylight visits Alaska.
Really really don't understand the Floyd/Broner comparisons? I understand it from a media perspective as Broner is quite obviously trying to be PBF but when it comes to boxing itself, they have absolutely no real similarity whatsoever minus the shoulder roll. Broner is flat footed, not as fast in punching or reflexes, and neither does he have the ring smarts of Floyd.
This fight was a lot closer than most people think. I just rewatched it without the commentary and with the Benny Hill Theme song instead, and Broner really had his moments.
OK, how bout intriguing? lol, all I'm saying is there are plenty of people of who thought Broner would someday be on par with Floyd. If there was any truth to that, then maybe the best gameplan against Floyd is to have no gameplan at all. It was done successfully against the Floyd emulating Broner, and arguably the most successful against Floyd himself was Cotto, who pretty much admitted he did not have much of a gameplan. Of course, there could only be something to that if you think Broner was comparable to Floyd.
He won a couple of rounds but bar 2 moments where he either froze maidana or made him back up he wasn't convincing. The biggest thing for me is he cant or wont counter punch and the amount of shots he took. He was being caught by a big puncher flush and often and while he was only shook a couple of times he cant keep shipping decent shots he got abused in the 9th and to had run. The complaining to the ref showed he was in over his head. His own power didn't look anything to write home about. Still I want him to fight again - just so he gets smashed up - he really isn't that good.
Floyd is flat footed alot when fighting 154, he uses the extra power to get their respect, and not think they can just run him over. Reflexes, speed, those are small things, biggest difference was defense to me. And Floyd was much smarter in opponent selecting which would make his abilities shine.
:rofl What a great idea:good It was a total beat down with a little anal pump too:rofl Then at the end the Little Bulldog, Maidana, brushed his hair.....I was laughing so badly I could not breath :smoke
