Adonis is trying to secure the future of his family and won't face Kovalev next. Froch doesn't want to fight at PHW and said no to Stevenson. No deal with Hopkins neither. Fonfara is Stevenson's next opponent. That's what says a Montreal newspaper this morning. Stevenson has a meeting with HBO next week for a several fights contract. Fonfara has been accepted by HBO and Kovalev would be in line for later in 2014.

What a noble man he is!:smoke

Fukin hell, I have to take my hat off for him and look up to him for his fine principles of life. I hope he isnt inspired by guys like Svenn Ottke how you can manage your career By milking money from gullible suckers as canadians.:good

Kovalev fight better happen after Fonfara.

thats what i been thinking for a while now...but i dont see how fonfara is going to be a payday for him..which is why i thought they were going a different route....and i see how the quebec media(rds, ect) is trying to build for a kovalev fight by menioning it here and there, hoping to get the public excited for it..

personally, next fight i would love to see kovalev vs pascal, bute vs hopkins, and stevenson vs froch...but i know that will not happen, lol

Stevenson destroys Dawson, Cloud and Bellew back to back and yet this sarcastic, smug homo right here is trying to compare him to Ottke, and trying to knock Canadians for not dragging him in the dirt for taking a break. Besides, Fonfara is coming off a KO win against Campillo, he's a decent opponent.

Most boxers take tune ups and breaks once in a while, especially before huge clashes, which will inevitably happen (vs Kovalev).

Inevitable? Let's hope so. Not so sure based on their stance since their last fights.

As for taking a break......... what exactly was Bellew? He was a convenient mando. He's ok. Bute he was pretty much easy work for Stevenson.

Fonfara is ok as well. You can do worse than Fonfara as a consolation prize, but let's not make it out like they aren't trying to milk this a little bit.

I'm able to separate my dislike for the man and recognize what he's doing in the ring. It's impressive. He ended Dawson. He made Cloud quit, and chased down and got rid of Bellew, great. But these weren't ring wars that require long recoup time, and a soft touch. Nor a long stretch of world class opponents.

He had the other hot commodity in the division, calling him out, with him in the building, in front of his own crowd on HBO. He didn't seem to want it then, and offered up 2 other guys, waited 2 whole weeks and then takes a step down to Fonfara? Sounds like a plan to me. Would you not call that milking it just a little?

No. I call this a build-up to the Kovalev fight. Kovalev brings jack **** to the table right now, he's not more of a payday than Fonfara is. The small crowd that took notice of Kovalev destroying Sillakh needs to grow into a much bigger Quebec crowd for this to put 16-18 000 bums in seats. Simple as. The Kovalev fight will happen late 2014.

And who is Kovalev going to fight to grow into this cash cow? All I see out there are worthy guys who won't fight him, or guys who will but are going to be overmatched.

The real money comes from the tv money.

Point is, It certainly seems like HBO's purpose of having Kovalev and Stevenson on the same card was to cultivate this fight. But sooner rather than later. A lot can happen in a year.

I can't see this fight being any more palatable for them then. Stevenson will fight Fonfara, then the Bute/Pascal winner maybe, then hopefully we'll see.

In the meantime, I think it's them who is holding it up.

Cloud or even Dawson. Make a statement in Quebec by punishing those guys worse than Stevenson did, again as a co-feature to the Stevenson fight who will end up fighting Fonfara, another one of Main Events' fighters. That's how the media works in Quebec... out-perform the local dude against the same guy(s), we'll want you in the ring with the local dude. Hence why every Quebecer believed Bute would beat Ward, since he beat Bika and Miranda in more spectacular fashion than Dre did.

Don't underestimate a gate of 18 000 @ Bell Centre + Quebec PPV revenues. The HBO fee pales in comparison. :yep
