you have a hard on for him which is just as bad as anyone who bashes him and my bad for the typo, meant to say Enoki, not Hasegawa. either way its another average guy that he beat whos claim to fame is losing to wba titlist chris john. whoopie never fighting another guy with a title to test your skills over 10 years is disgraceful congrats on being the best WBA champ of the 3 WBA titlist and the worst organization of the 4 sanctioning bodies. Chris YAWN, singapore hero and little else
Where's your "substantial" remarks on why you think Chris John won that fight, other than just because other people think so.
John's won six or seven every time I watch the fight. Neither guy landed very much, but in general I favored John's ring generalship over JMM's (largely ineffective) aggression. The deductions were questionable, I'll grant...But it was hardly a case of highway robbery, regardless of the points taken from JMM.
Marquez's "largely ineffective aggression" was still more effective than anything John did. While he was basically doing nothing, Marquez connected with the more effective punches throughout the fight. The totally bogus point deductions where just another indication of who the judge was favoring in that fight. Not a "highway robbery" but a simple home-town decision.
John defended well, and made Marquez miss. A lot. And his jab, while not especially accurate, was still enough to keep Marquez from mounting any meaningful offense. Defense and ring generalship>aggression in this case...imo, anyway. Not a great fight, but that's as much on JMM as on John, really.
Chris John was great... Best Indonesian fighter ever. When talking about the best Featherweights of all time, his claim as the best Featherweight of his era will at least deserve some mention at some point even if he is not near a top 10 all time. He has one of the better undefeated starts to a career, at least among his era or in his division. Length of dominance is significant for him, as he was once the longest reigning title holder in boxing for some time after Hasegawa lost until his last bout. His stay in a single division, featherweight at that, is notable. Single top notch victory over Marquez, perhaps the second or third most decisive defeat of Marquez's career. Although his triumph over Yordan may not be great from a boxing/resume/legacy POV from a cultural/economic/tv ratings POV, the fight with Yordan was pretty epic. --- Honestly, if every active fighter retired today there wouldn't be a whole lot with a better resume than Chris John. People act like there are plenty of fighters, hanging off trees, out there with better credentials than John. Name some under 30 years old...
Clearly not a tomato can. For what I underlined: Agreed. It is weird that no big time padded prospect worked their way up eliminators or "lucky/underdog" title winner tried to fight him. As for paragraph 1: Agreed. Well said. John won on my card I've watched it top to bottom 4 times. Came up with my widest score upon last viewing. Even without the deductions, my card is usually a draw. I have had scores all over but never in Marquez's favor. It was a close ass fight. Just how I view it doesn't change. Were the point deductions a little early and without enough warning? Maybe. Did Marquez foul a lot? Yes. That post was hot on two face value levels. Toss up fight at its finest? 1. You did not mean Enoki. 2. I thought you said titles don't mean anything? So why would your second statement mean anything? They mean little unless they are earned/proven in a manner that justifies one as a top 4 fighter in the division, in an ideal world, yes? Well than John's did.
Chris John's official The Ring Magazine featherweight division rankings at the end of the calendar year for the stated year: 2004: 8th 2005: 7th 2006: 1st 2007: 1st 2008: 1st 2009: 1st 2010: 3rd 2011: 2nd 2012: 2nd Yeah, he sucks. A clear mapping of how his resume can be laid out on paper in a positive display while also accurately showing who he has fought of relevance to a degree that others insist he has not. Fought RING ranked #1 Marquez, #4 Enoki, and #9 Piriyapino. Fought guys who used to be perennially in the top 10 in Gainer and Juarez X2 (D, W). Fought then IBO Feather champ Vetyeka (L) and future IBO Feather champ Yordan. Fought former WBA 122 titlist Osamu Sato. Fought former title challengers in Jose Rojas X2 (D, W), Shoji Kimura, Satoshi Hosono, Tommy Browne, and Oscar Leon as well as future title challenger in Roinet Caballero.
The ring magazine has no interest hyping Chris John...So yes its the testimony of his foes if anything :hey
