Mayweather is right. No one is even mentioning the fact that Broner moved up 2 weight classes in such a small amount of time to fight a dangerous puncher like Maidana. So for all that courage people still laughing at him for losing. If he left it up to his management team maybe they would have eased into WW life rather than rush it. It's only the last few years that I can say floyd is a proper WW. When he was fighting Judah and Baldomir and guys like Hatton I didn't believe him to be a proper WW. But over time he has become one and no longer can guys use their size advantage over him. Mosley couldn't. Ortiz couldn't, Mosley couldn't and Canelo couldn't.

 

Correction, Broner moved up 2 weight classes to fight a powder puff punching champion in Malignaggi, everyone knows Malignaggi can't punch so it was a low risk high reward fight for Broner, unfortunately for him once your champion you normally have to defend your title & the waters around 147 are infested with sharks.
So who was he supposed to defend his title against other than Maidana?
Khan? Thurman? Guerrero? Ortiz? Garcia? Matthysse? Alexander? Porter?
On paper Maidana was the easiest opponent, unfortunately fights are fought in the ring & not on paper.

Just because broner lost doesn't mean it wasnt a 'cherry pick'. Broners team assumed it would be an easy fight for him I'm sure. It just turns out that broner isn't very good (something that lots of us already knew)

I know its bait, but Broner ain't no Pacquiao! I will not **** on Pacquiao's accomplishments, although the De la hoya fight has an asterisks next to it.

 

At the time Broner moved up he got an instant shot at Malignaggi who was viewed as a weak belt holder. This could have easily been perceived as him bypassing 140 which was murderers row at that point and still kind of is.

 

Firstly, to address one of my pet hates, it's "should have" not "should of".

Anyway, as I recall, Broner said he would let fans choose his next opponent - after it became clear that would be Matthysse, he chose Maidana because he thought it was an easier fight. Part of the problem is that Broner (and his team) had a completely deluded sense of how good he was; they would never have avoided Maidana because they thought it was an easy fight.

His attitude was going to get him in over his head sooner or later. If Maidana wasn't the one to expose him, it would have been someone else.

 

Stop letting your hate for someone shade everything they say or do in a bad light. You guys are bigger then that. All he's saying is that you have a team for a reason so its not smart to go off on your own route. They know whats best for you. More specifically he's just saying the same thing that I and Danny Garcia said. He shouldve fought another puncher 1st because its crazy that just a year ago he was fighting at 130 and then 135 against midgets like Rees.

Its stupid to fight Rees and then 10 months later take punches from a 161 pound Maidana. Its going to be a shock to your system. You can fight Maidana but you have to fight another guy or 2 first that can punch but not as hard and not on a top level like that. It should be gradual and not rushed

unfortunately for floyd, pac is the fotd and 8 div champ and a star in his own right. he cant be labeled along those lines.

pac is very high risk very high reward.

floyd only considers low rist even if the reward is much lower.

 

Floyd was just very fortunate as he had Gatti. It was a big money and popularity boosting fight that he had and Broner didn't. Gatti already solidified as being a warrior, remembered for the Ward trilogy, and white American was the perfect tailor made brawler for Floyd at the time. And once you reach certain plataeu's in hype in boxing, it's easier to get fights. From there he was able to eventually spring to De La Hoya, then Hatton. Then he "retires
" when he didn't like the picks anymore, only to come back with full hype intact. Floyd just came up at a very fortunate time and weight, and Broner started with the mouth too early. He put the target/pressure on himself not for an easy fight (like Floyd with Gatti) and he ends up feeling pressured in to tough ones.
