Don't get me wrong he is a cool dude, always thanks the fans and he definitely has boxing skills, speed and athleticism. But I can't help but think that a fighter who gets praised as much as he is, a premiere fighter that is considered to be the gold standard in boxing, should have done more. :conf He is considered the very best at welterweight and super welterweight, but has he cleaned out either of those divisions? No. :-( You would think that a fighter with his status, a fighter that wins every hypothetical matchup without debate, would line 'em all up and knock 'em all down. What's the problem? He and his fans always brag about his PPV numbers (justifiably so, he does really well for himself) you would think that fighting more then once a year (and a bogus retirement) would bring in the dough? Broner vs. Maidana shows you that if you take on all comers your chances of defeat rises and please don't talk about AB's flaws in skill after the fact because he was widely considered the favorite going in against a "tough but limited brawler." You wanna be called the BEST? Clean out a division bums and all. Wladimir Klitschko has his haters but no one really believes that he is going to lose, just wishful thinking. Wlad's best opposition is well behind him, he has properly cleaned out his division. Any other fighter that fought as infrequent as Floyd does (add a not so exciting style) wouldn't get as much praise, just ask Andre Ward. Too bad for Ward he didn't have a pretty boy to fight backed by the networks and a 24/7 hype machine.
So Floyd has to fight every top rated guy at 47 and 54 to earn your praise and/or to solidify his place in the annals of boxing?
Everyone has an opinion, but I disagree. Floyd is undefeated and when he boxes he's just too good. Most of his opponents have said that. You gotta give credit where it's do Floyd is the no.1 p4p and the real deal.
More or less.. I wouldn't request that from anyone that didn't call themselves one of the GOAT. Sitting on the sidelines as much as he has just doesn't cut it for me, sorry.
Fair enough, but you do realize that Floyd's place in boxing history is pretty much secure regardless of what some folks on ESB think? It seems to bug some people that their opinion of Floyd isn't going to change his place in history....
Let's see the opinion of a keyboard warrior vs the opinion of the majority of current and former boxers. Chuck, I'll go full ******* and go with the keyboard warrior on this one.
atschatsch A hype-job? It's not like he's an up and comer. He's the pound for pound best fighter on the planet and has been for quite sometime. That's not just my opinion. That's the opinion of anyone who watches boxing. 10/10 for the trolling title though
Lineal at 147 and 154 at the age of 36, 45-0 recognized as the best boxer on this planet a hype job? What's your agenda?
you do know that Floyd has had a 17 year career and the biggest part was before 147-154. Dont try to box him into a corner. He was the #1 P4P or very close even before he got to WW. He did a ton more in his career that you arent giving him credit for
