i was a little disapointed about that.. i was hoping we could get some words from gomez talking about the fight and stuff
I know he said he was disappointed with what the doctor advised, he said he could see out of his eye, but the doctor said he couldn't he thought he could go on.
i kinda thought the stoppage was unfair... gomez was clearly ready to go even though he was bound to lose... but like floyd said " one shot can stop a career " who knows what could have happened
Man it was only 5 rounds in and his face was already distorted. He had 6 more rounds to go. Who knows what he would have looked like.
I don't think Gomez could do anything to win but the doctoring seemed kind of aggressive. That's a good thing, I guess, no one wants to see anyone get hurt. Maybe something else was going on with Gomez that the doctor knew about, as in the pancreas problem during the build up vid Gomez made.
The doctor stopped the fight. What do you think? They sent him to the hospital for tests right after the fight. Common sense.
They probably didnt want to see Gomez get beat worse than he already was, so the doctors decided to stop the fight.. As far as the postfight interview, he was probably to embarrased or disappointed to talk...
Good point. HBO seems to usually just talk to the winner, unless both are extremely popular. Showtime on the other hand seems to always talk to both.
I read somewhere that Alfonso's doctor said he shouldn't fight Cotto because of a condition or something. Maybe the ring doctor was aware of this and did his best so that he didn't get seriously hurt.
It didnt seem right to me. He was still able to defend himself and he was still boxing and throwing punches. Usually the fight is only stopped if the fighter stops throwing shots back. Just becaues he is loosing rounds and taking punches doesnt seem right for the doctor to stop it. If they think their guy is too hurt then its up to the corner to stop it.
